Well I could also dump every other piece of ore, but that is not the kind of solution I was hoping for.
I am annoyed by -
- layers looking ugly, it is impossible to carve a housing area without several veins and other crap going through it.
- finding minerals being too easy.
I miss being frightened by the possibility that my map contains no iron at all, having to do exploratory mining, actually preventing low skill miners from mining ore...

Make all layer stones (slate, limestone, gabbro, etc) have globs, veins, etc appear in themselves.

For example, [ENVIRONMENT_SPEC:SLATE:VEIN:100] in the slate raw entry.

Edit: I should add, the upcoming update should solve some of the mineral abundance.

Yeah I get tired of a cinnabar vein running straight through my dining room to. You can build a road on the floor. Then remove the road. The road will change the stone under it to whatever stone color the stones around it are is. And even a novice modder can turn every stone in the game to gray with some free time.

I guess you could set every metal ore to appear only in small groups like platinum & petrified wood.

[ENVIRONMENT:IGNEOUS_EXTRUSIVE:CLUSTER_SMALL:100]
[ENVIRONMENT:METAMORPHIC:CLUSTER_SMALL:100] etc.

I know you are trying to help but I am not really thrilled by any of those suggestions, so : Is it possible to have minerals spawn the way they spawned in 29.40?
Yes- post
No- leave this thread to die

Edit: I should add, the upcoming update should solve some of the mineral abundance.
Oh that would be good.

Try reducing the frequency of each stone, so, for example:

[ENVIRONMENT:IGNEOUS_EXTRUSIVE:CLUSTER_SMALL:100]
to
[ENVIRONMENT:IGNEOUS_EXTRUSIVE:CLUSTER_SMALL:50]

Reducing all the vein and cluster stones equally might not do anything by itself, as the game might go 'hey, vein goes here' before looking at the probabilities of each one (not sure how it works). In that case you'd need to have veins of the layer stone appearing inside the layer itself, and make the veins common enough that the game picks them out more often than anything else combined.

But if it works, that's really the closest you're going to get to the old 'one vein per embark tile' behaviour. It's possible that you'll get no veins in a 48x48 area or a couple of veins in a 48x48 area, but you'll have to make tunnels to find out. If the very next update is going to reduce mineral frequencies, I'd just wait.

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.
