[38c] Tame Stray Dog vulnerable to player traps
« on: March 24, 2008, 11:59:00 am »

Alright here's a screenshot of it:

you can see that he was chained up next to my stonefall traps and was hit and killed by one.

The beginning of this sequence of events is PROBABLY more important, but I can't be sure:

The dog was chained on a different spot, the bottom left chain in the screenshot, when a goblin ambush hit us.

The goblin attacked the dog and wounded his head and tail and knocked him back ... and he (the dog) got caught in a cage trap.  I thought that was WEIRD but no -harm-no-foul kinda deal, so I kept on trucking.

But the same dog, who was still pretty badly wounded, was rechained for ambush spotting purposes (lil' brudder !) and then a few minutes later, no hostiles around, he wandered into a stonefall trap and got himself killed.

Cliffs:

Goblin hit dog, dog sprung cage trap, dog got chained, dog hit stonefall trap.

Not sure where the bug lies here, but, I do have a save of the game like 10 seconds before the dog dies in a stonefall trap if you'd like me to upload that toady.

It seems like every (reported) dog that's been killed by a player trap was previously wounded.  I wonder if that has something to do with it.

gotta be.

i know it's been previously reported, i only made a new one because i have a save of the game mere seconds before the dog died in the trap so toady can take a look at the dog with his super whammy special ultra programming microscope of bugfixification if he needs to.

I've had them die, but I was never around to check their previous status.

Who knows, I could be harvesting e-mail addresses, right?

EDIT: besides, if you're that paranoid, why wouldn't you have a few throwaway e-mail addresses for just such purposes? I know I have a couple.

Friendlies that go unconscious can trigger traps.  That is intended.

Maybe extend that to friendlies that fall over for other reasons, like stumbling after a charge or dropping from a height?

I had one dog that survived a Goblin ambush with two yellow body parts and pain in a paw. I kept it around since it had four or five puppies trailing it ...

It kept getting stunned or unconscious, but would always wake up again and take off in a semi-random direction.

Yesterday I got the message "[firstname lastname], Dog, has bled to death" - it managed to trigger a stone trap. (A mechanic came running up soon afterwards reloading that trap).

Since I have Muskoxen with a half-dozen calves chained up in that area, I can very definitely state that non-injured tame animals do not seem to trigger traps (otherwise the area would be red with Muskox puree).

And I can quite definitely confirm that injured pets seem to be able to trigger stone-fall traps (hmm, injured dog dies on top of a stone trap, there's a stone on top of it that wasn't there before, and some guy runs up to reload. Looks like it was the trap after all. I just can't confirm if the dog fell unconscious (but then, it spent 2/3 of its life either stunned or out of it)

Does that go for dwarves as well?  I have a marksdwarf with a red lung who perpetually falls unconscious, but she has yet to trigger a trap.  I guess it could just be luck.

Ah, this must be the reason unconscious people trigger traps when carried sometimes.

What version is that?  Riders of all kinds should be trap immune, and it checks that before the ko state.
