Live report from the hospital, chief of emergency: Eleven people were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.  One person is confirmed dead, a child (9-10 years old).  Five are in critical condition, including the Congresswoman, who was indeed shot in the cranium and the neck, but is alive.  The other five are still in surgery.

Okay, I think we can all put some politics aside, and agree that this guy must have been fucking crazy first and foremost.

Good to know the Internet is on the case.  Haven't heard the shooter's name yet though, so don't be too surprised if it's not the same guy.

Yeah, the guy must have been nuts / a MAJOR extremist. Like, so extreme Al Queda would have found him unnervingly zealous. (not neccisitating he's a religious extremist btw)

My heart goes out to the families of those involved.  :-\

I've been watching some of those videos.  The Introduction one is especially enlightening.  Namely, that this guy was crazy in the contagious, almost cinematic way.  Like he's living in his separate world that just happens to bear a resemblance to our world, and if you listened to him long enough, you'd be sucked in with him.

I was watching the NBC/KVOA (Tucson local tv apparently) live webcast for a bit. Appears they were getting lots of concerned calls and emails from viewers wondering what was happening to the football game that the channel was supposed to air now, so the talking heads felt they had to point out that it was their civic duty to report on important news events, but they promised to put the football game in a box in the corner of the screen.

Can't let the real world get in the way of mindless entertainment I guess.
