I was thinking the same thing. Also, agreed.

Hit the tile to the direct top-left of of the red tile.
Disagreed.

You think that with the given rule set the starting player will always win.

"Come on, TQ-19408605, you're just saying that because you don't want to lose"

He's got you there.

You select a hex to the upper left.

"That's the spirit..."

"...But the Grexxil maneuver can't beat my strategy."

So, somebody asks me what I'm drawing and I say I'm kind of doing a comic.
And they ask what it's about. I have to tell them I'm drawing the background to two aliens playing space tic-tac-toe.
That's usually when the interest ends.

Block him off with a tile to the bottom-left of the original tile.

Oh, is there a border? I just figured that he could go anywhere on the table, meaning that blocking any direction now would mean that he could just go in the other and win. Yeah, I agree that we block him. If he plays smart, this should be a tie. Otherwise, we win.

Edit: My spider senses are going off. Something is going to barge into the room or something right before we can make our final move. I'm calling it.

Don't click anything, he can't win if you don't play.

I just checked out all his countermoves if we go with that "tile to the bottom-left of the original tile."  Which we should.  If he follows by claiming a tile contiguous with his others along the right rim, we will win with a line along the left rim.  He will not be dumb enough to do so, and will instead block us along the left rim.  Then we will pinwheel around the middle until we draw.

Block him off with a tile to the bottom-left of the original tile.
The only logical option for if we want a 'chance' at winning.

Big green circle = our next move
Dashy circle on the left = red's probable next move, or our response to red's improbable next move
Dashy circle on the right = red's improbable next move, or our response to red's probable next move

I'm waiting for the trick, where he declares victory on turn three, having contructed a curved line from three contiguous hexes.  :P
