You agree to the captain's revised demands without asking for any concessions in return.
You are truly a master of diplomacy.

"Aye! then! We'll be getting the test subject ready fer yer tinkerin', Butterfly Kisses."

Minutes later two droids arrive with the broken droid from earlier in tow.

"Butterfly Kisses! It burns my circuits to see ye still drawing breath!
Ye be lucky the cap'm be more merciful than I!
"

They move the droid near a terminal and attach it with cables.

"It be time to begin, Butterfly Kisses."

"Ye, can modify f46529's personality subroutines as ye will, but leave his memories and communication protocols intact!
Rememb'r if ye tamper with his mind too far we'll be here to reward yer treachery
"

You understand and begin to decompile the main functions of the code into an editable format.
It seems the primary motivations are hardcoded into the logic routines.
Almost all logic functions are determined subsequent to the aversion of spaceflight.
The empire of the past really didn't want to be bombed from orbit by droids
(Shame the Pstchithxch did that anyway)

You think you may have found a loophole.
You might be able to run an auxiliary set of logic definitions if only you could
externally disable the logic core that already runs.
But how would you reduce the droid's ability to think logically?

...

That's it!

Nearly a hour after beginning you face he droids.
presenting your success in circumventing the aversion
to the mindless gibbering void that is space.

"Aye, we'll let f46529 reboot and see how successful ye be."

As if on cue, f46529 regains simulated consciousness.

"Yarr, I can't say that be the best thing to ever happen to me.
I don't know what Butterfly Kisses did to me but I feel almost like I could go anywhere.
"

"Yarr, even to the murky blackness of space?!"

"I dunno cap'm, fer that I might need to imbibe some rum to
get my spirits up. Liquid courage it be!
"

An awkward silence follows briefly.

DONK!

"Ye think that be funny ye treacherous scoundrel Butterfly Kisses!?
Ye be forgettin' that we not be having mouths or lips to drink with or organs to absorb ethanol with
or brain cells to be affected by Butterfly Kisses?!!!
I should wring yer filthy tubespawner neck!
"

"Yarr! Matey lay yer caws off Butterfly Kisses, we still be in need of her abi-"

THUNK!

You have fallen unconscious.

I've been drawing all day. Unless there is a massive change of opinion, I'll transition directly to TQ-04 sometime tomorrow.

Apparently, they also "not be having" any sense of gratitude. ZING. Oh well, eventually they'll figure out that they can drill holes in their heads and pour alcohol down them like reverse blow-holes. And spout alcohol out of them when they're surprised or startled. That, or they'll brutally kill thousands of mutants out of frustration before being forcibly returned to normal by other droids. We salute you, TQ-03. Your life was meaningless, and only made the universe a worse place to live for those you tried to protect.

Wait, if TQ-03 is dead, does that mean another character slot opened up? Assuming permanently unconscious TQ-03 doesn't keep the spot occupied I'd love to spend that on the pirate droid captain, if for no other reason then to add an ironic twist to TQ-03's legacy. From your epiphany, it doesn't really seem that likely that we'll get a chance to spend that character slot so soon, though, if ever. I don't really know how the droid captain would fit in with the plot anyway. Moving to TQ-04 from this is perfect though.

unconscious =! dead

TQ-02 and TQ-01 have hit walls, survived explosions, and been repeatedly violently strangled.
TQ-03 bumped her head on a droid chassis.

The epiphany, in summary, was more along the lines of "People like yogurt mutant revolutionaries and pirate robots, let's not kill TQ-03 after all"

So instead I knocked her out so I can stall until our (strangely cyclical) roster system leads people to want to revisit her storyline again.

EDIT: Also, Droid cap'm be talkin' like this me bucko
It was one of the other droids talking in Coral
because f46529 was already talking in orange

When we DO return to TQ-03, have a radical emotional change in her character from being subjugated by drones and must be rescued by another main character

I haven't laughed that hard in MONTHS! :D

Once we come to our sense we should show them the "RUM.EXE" we made, and explain with the traditional facial expression of intonation of under-appreciated IT support towards computer illiterate grandparents that because our solution requires a tradeof we made it run time changeable, and named it in a way that seemed the most intuitive given it's effects.

I still say we make ZC-04 a droid maintainence tech.

She can have the droids shut down for emergency inspection, 'cause, y'know, they don't want to get the DEADLY, er... "Ioannes Longus" AG-109 virus. There's a lot of that going around lately.

ARGH.

Whatever; after this point, the droids will have plenty of time to confer amongst themselves.  They acknowledge TQ-03's usefulness and have seen progress made.  I suspect that, whenever TQ-03 wakes up, we'll find that the droids haven't gone on a killing spree or anything.  Peace may be a reality.  Possibly, mutant/droid cooperation in anticipation of further progress once "butterfly kisses" wakes up.  With enough shoehorning, we could even . . . hand-wave through the stuff that's been driving Robocorn bonkers.  A whole new scene!  New prospects!  New plot!

And within this new world of mutant/droid cooperation, TQ-03 will remember to negotiate.

Pity how it will be weeks or months before we do anything about that.

so, I finally lightened up and decided that it might be more in the spirit of the Illustrated suggestion game to change the plot to accommodate the choices instead of vice versa.

I don't know for sure what you mean.  I just don't want you to grow to hate the story.

And I still want the darn chapter to end . . .

You are TQ-04

In the last 45 seconds (how time flies)
You have been restrained, separated from ZC-04
(and that blasphemous monstrosity that was once TQ-42)
and dragged to the mental modification room where
you'll most likely have your mind reformatted due to your
apparent insanity in the face of the establishment.

"Please, cease your flailing about."
"The procedure will begin regardless of your resistance"
"You will not miss your old mind, you will not even recall having it"

"Please be seated,"

Mechanical vises and a visor clamp over your head.

"It is recommended that you remain calm.
It will make the epileptic barrage more bearable.
you will participate in hypnopathic bugfix before reformatting"

As eye piercing colors flash across the entire field of your vision at a sickening pace
You lose awareness of your body and you lose conscious thought.

Your  subsequently regain consciousness in a most unfamiliar place.

You find yourself adrift in a pale void
your center of balance wavering as you try in vain to get your bearings

You hear a voice seemingly from all sides.

"Welcome, Sectoid Tee Kyu Zero For"

"I hope you're ready for mental repair"

You turn to see a bluish shape with a simple expressive face bobbing not far from yourself.
It seems harmless enough, but something about it seems uncanny

"I am the AI responsible for performing your bugfix."
"Do not be alarmed, approximately 1 in 14349 Sectoids must endure reformatting in their lifetimes
Your erratic and dangerous behavior will be nullified for the good of the Gabronian Empire.
But that's not my motivation, I do it our of affection for you all.
Sectoids that have their bad thoughts taken away by me report an average 12.3% increase in measurable happiness and fulfillment.
Isn't that great?!"

"Before we can get to fixing you, we have to go through chemo-environmental bugfix
doesn't that sound fun?
It's where you answer a brief selection of questions to compare your perceptions of events
with the raw data recorded in your brain, and physically collected date with a higher truth value to determine
what aberrations exist in your brain so we can avoid chemo-environmental disturbances in the future.
Doesn't that sound great?!"

"First question! What is your name and occupation?"

Tomorrow-ish
nonono, run Wine.
(ba-dum-tish for Linux folks :P)
That joke was so bad you get like 125 zemblax.

I don't know for sure what you mean.  I just don't want you to grow to hate the story.

And I still want the darn chapter to end . . .

--Rexfelum

I'm far from hating the story, primarily because I'm unsure of the substance of the story in ad of itself.
It adds some degree of excitement, but at times it can be frustrating.
Usually I solve this by thinking of the stupidest possible result and going with it.
Hence, conspiracy theory contest and pirate droids.

I don't know what I was thinking with chapters.
I didn't really understand the Act system of storytelling when I started this thing so chapters served to mark off the points where
major shifts in motivation occurred.
The arc for space voyage originally was a pretty basic three act thing. So chapters made more sense for delineating  minor shifts.
now that I see the plot from farther away it would seem like chapter 2 was more the beginning of act two.
Al the characters had experienced some sort of call to action and come to accept it.
They just haven't been called to the right action because all of the plot threads are free floating.
So, from what I've seen, Space Voyage definitely has more than three acts. It's not what I expected, but then again,
I never expected to still be doing this in October.

In summation, chapters are really acts and I'm an idiot for calling them the wrong thing.
Also I have no idea when the circumstances that will satisfy a new act will occur.
