Effects of age?
« on: January 08, 2011, 01:15:40 pm »

Just a quick question related to my current game in nightmare mode: In what exact way does the aging process alter a character's stats? Specifically, going from Child to Teenager to Adult. The Wiki doesn't have any info on this at all, unfortunately.

And just in case any of the current developers read this, how about removing 'brainwashed' status from a turned conservative and making them full-fledged members if they make one of the aforementioned age jumps while in the service of the LCS? If they spent their formative years under the influence of Elite Liberalism, their political education shouldn't just have the depth of tin-foil (heh); Instead, they should eventually adopt the Liberal Agenda as their own.

Because children raised by cults typically display the greatest sophistication in their beliefs.

'Sophistication in their beliefs' isn't really a word I would use to describe anything in this absurdist parody game. I'm thinking more in terms of the 'strength' of their beliefs. Think of people who were raised in very religious families - 'Free-thinker' definitely isn't the first word that comes to mind here, either, but they tend to be very firmly entrenched in their ideology.

Generally speaking, this would only effect brainwashed teenagers, although if anyone reached retiree age it may also apply.

I think it would make an interesting easter egg.

Still, the main question of this thread was supposed to be about the effects of aging... any first-hand experience here? I think I remember Heart going down and Intelligence going up as characters age, but it's been a long time.

In the last real conversation I had with my grandfather before his death he extolled the virtues of fascism to us.  My father on the other hand developed a politically liberal mindset very soon after moving out of his father's home.  This was despite being raised on a regimen of church attendance seven days a week and lectures about how hippies were destroying the country.  In the end my grandfather could put the boy into the cult but he couldn't put the cult into the boy.

To the original question about stat changes, from my memory, not source so I could be very wrong or have forgotten something...

Children and elders both have higher charisma
Children have weaker physical stats but high heart
Old people lose heart and gain wisdom (old and cynical)
Old people will begin losing health, eventually resulting in death by old age

Everything Kay12 said about aging is true, I believe; I think old people gain intelligence as well as charisma and wisdom, and also lose strength and agility, just not as fast as health. I don't remember but I wouldn't be surprised if children have penalties to intelligence as well. Also, teenagers have a penalty to charisma, unlike children, who have a bonus.

Ah I was wondering where that was. If anyone wants to put it on the wiki, feel free.
