Crocatowa... I already started building that fighting pit. I thought you were gonna give designs for the danger room thingy. I have never actually seen one. But the design is very similar to yours.
Obsidian will not drop if there is a 1 tile wide hallway? Why?
I'll take the cook if he's open, as...

Name: Expendable Urist
Profession: Machine Tester
Job: Axedwarf/Mechanic

Project: Build a drop chute in the sky, landing cushioned by a puppy at the bottom, then personally test it.
Welcome aboard! but why would you want to kill yourself? You wouldn't survive the drop if it's high enough to be counted "in the sky". The puppy won't actually do anything either. I'm gonna need suicide confirmation before I let you go test it.
So... several layers high, each layer with a different stone, lightest at the bottom.
Thanks for the advice Di but I have my own plans. *menacing smile*

Actually, if he lands on the puppy, neither him or the puppy will be injured at all.

Danger room: Room filled with upright wooden training spears (NOT menacing wooden spikes), all linked to a lever. Soldiers are stationed inside the room and Pull the Lever/R.

RLY!?!?! You can land on the puppy and not get hurt even if I fall a long way? How else can you soften your fall?
So those spears don't actually hurt? And why would I want to train goblins?
New migrants!
13 wood burner, 5 gem cutter, 3 potash maker, 1 tanner, 1 glassmaker
6 brewerer, 5 organizer
6 thresher, 3 persuader, 1 siege engineer, 1 diagnostician (Gave this one to Dariush.)

I dunno, I've dropped four dogs one after one and got one dead and three injured, though I've seen that working in adventure. I suggest you build some engineering facility to figure out that once and for all. As for long drops, last of those four dogs survived several drops in the same shaft when bottom level was filled with water. (Other two drowned when I forgot to let them out  :-[)

So those spears don't actually hurt? And why would I want to train goblins?
To increase the challenge of course  :D
We all know that standard goblin troops aren't anything near challenging for dwarves that are trained in those rooms. Why don't make such room for goblins as well? That'll make fights interesting at least  ;)

Does anyone have any confirmed info on the fall thingy? If not then would anyone volunteer to test it?

For the danger room, its more fun to link the traps to random pressure plates from WITHIN the training room so that the moving dwarves trigger the spikes for the other dwarves. Or we can make one on a repeater, but those take a bit of effort to configure

I'll test it after testing a few other projects.

Tests in the arena have shown that fall damage is negated by hitting a creature upon landing.

So those spears don't actually hurt?

They do, just very little, and pretty much any armor will stop them completely.

I could just put a Pull the lever command on repeat... Then when a dwarf tires from pulling, another one comes and meanwhile the goblins can rest.

But the goblins have no armor. So they could get... Wait... I'm worrying about goblins?
Dariush, I gave you an above ground room. Are you OK with that?

What's this about goblins not having armor? Just don't harvest the goblinite until after running them through the arena. Also, by "armor" I meant "armor, and clothing too sort of, for short periods."

Yeah, I meant they have no armor or anything when they go in the danger rooms. Will be removed when if they get through the 5 fights.
