Pinkie Pie is just... Pinkie Pie. She's either a minor Time Lord or, as a spirit of Laughter, simply runs on Rule of Funny. She is not a unicorn, but possesses nigh-magical powers of her own. Something akin to a pony Newtype. A very, very lighthearted Newtype. Therefore, using Pinkie Pie in a discussion on universe physics is like using... hell, can't come up with a simile. Probably like using quantum uncertainty principles to describe the results of a die roll. They probably have something to do with it, but to meaningfully use them in any tangible way you'd have to know their principles to a practically impossible degree, and even then you've no way of knowing whether or not you're really right.

She never says that in the first season, and in the second season, this is AFTER the mane 6 have 'acquired' them.

So you're going with the interpretation that she and her sister lost the ability to use the Elements of Harmony not because there was no more, y'know, harmony between them but rather because somebody else took them?
I don't think there's any point in this conversation continuing any longer.

Well no, that's the whole point. You don't suspend the laws of physics at will, that's why they're laws of physics. The fact that she can do that indicates that the ponyverse is fundamentally different from our own universe.

"Suspending the laws of physics at will" is, for instance, Discord's whole schtick. Also, magic.

Besides, haven't you heard of the Rule of Exceptions? "For any given set of rules, a sufficiently specific set of circumstances can exist, for which the rules will not hold." It basically means that whatever the laws, you can never explicitly rule out exceptions, unless the laws are sufficiently specific. It's what lawyers do to get around laws all the time.

And if you care to remember, the Elements of Harmony were just stones. They each needed a corresponding Spirit to use. When it's said Celestia "used the elements of Harmony" last time, she probably had another set of six "volunteers", or perhaps five plus herself. Since the key to the Elements is true friendship, and of the last batch that used them only she was immortal, perhaps she really had no other way but to use Twilight&Co for the task. She could no longer be "true friends" with anybody, since her true friends were long dead.

Well there you go.

Yeah, I'd love to see a lawyer get around the laws of physics. Like gravity. Tell you what, let's start throwing them off skyscrapers right now! Either we're in for a revolution in physics or at least we'll have a nice show. Either way it'll be a hoot.

Heh heh. Yeah. Well, the laws of physics are rather terribly specific, so to get around them you'll likely need precision down to the quantum level. Once we get Quantum Lawyers, I'm sure they'll be the first to start jumping. Off skyscrapers, I mean.

As for Pinkie Pie, I think it's fairly safe to say she's supernatural. Keeping up with (flying)Rainbow Dash while on foot can count as nothing but.

Pinkie doesn't have to break the laws of physics in order to do what she does. Sufficient application of energy can perform any action. Pinkie's probably got a very strong affinity for her element and it grants her raw magical power comparable to Twilight. She can use it to levitate, appear to be two places at once, or other "funny" things. The other ponies probably have similar blessings from their elements, but their blessings aren't as visible.

There's also the possiblity that what we see is just a visual metaphor for an extremely hyperactive filly.

Also, my cousin was a lawyer. He won a court case with God by proving that he shouldn't have died from falling off a 5-story building. Of course, now he's paralyzed from the neck down, but he says it was worth it.

Yeah. Pinkie Pie's "suspension of the laws of physics" is actually perfectly in line with equestria's physics; The things she does are far smaller in scope than similar things done by Discord for example (whose supernatural abilities are also, BTW, clearly distinct from unicorn-style magic).

EDIT: Also, in regard to defying gravity, Pinkie Pie may simply have some pegasus ancestry; There's no way that the pegasi fly entirely by means of the air displaced by their wings they clearly don't flap fast enough for that to be the case (unless equestria's atmosphere is super thick with a consistency more similar to water than to regular air; which does not otherwise seem to be the case), and they cartainly don't flap fast enough to break the sound barrier, and there's no way in hell that breaking the sound barrier should create a rainbow....

It's been pretty heavily analyzed that pegasi wings likely act in as similar fashion to a unicorn's horn: providing an extended surface for external force nerves to operate on. I personally hold the theory that Surprise is in fact Pinkie Pie's "Granny Pie," and unless I am proven wrong by the canon, I refuse to change that opinion. That does bring up the question of where the external force nerves in the earth ponies would be located, since their presence seems a given in any other species of pony.

In other news, Cracked just bashed bronies. I am dissapoint. Not that I'm going to stop visiting the site over it.

Personally, I think that she's ultimately powered (primarily) by the same kind of chaos magic as Discord.

Pros of checking it every day: Only need to read three things. I've read the rest already ;)

Okay yeah I don't see ponies anywhere.

Oh, yep, there it is.

Christina H. seems to hate the bronies. Is it because of the meme laced culture most bronies have?

Regardless, I might avoid cracked for a while.  :P

Don't be angry at Cracked; they aren't the ones who write articles. Their stuff is still awesome.
