"Water. Earth. Fire. Air. My grandma used to tell me stories about the old days, a time of peace when the Alicorn kept balance between the Unicorns, Earth Ponies, Pegasi, Gryphons and Zebras. But that all changed when the Fire Nation attacked.  Only the Alicorn mastered all four elements. Only an Alicorn could stop another Alicorn. But when Equestria needed her most, she vanished. A thousand years have passed and all of Equestria bears the yoke of tyranny.  Two years ago, I was exiled and disowned for my dishonour, I do not know what I would have done if my friend didn't come with me.  Some ponies believe that the next Alicorn had gone crazy and been killed by the current Alicorn, but I haven't lost hope. I still believe that somehow the next Alicorn will return to save Equestria."

Earth Ponies = Earth or Water Benders - Earth Kingdom / Southern Water Tribe
Unicorns = Water or Fire Benders - Fire Nation / Northern Water Tribe
Gryphons = Air or Fire Benders - Air Nomads (Northern and Southern Air Temples) / Sun Warriors
Zebras = Earth or Water Benders - Swamp Tribes / Sandbender Tribes

Mane Cast:
Luna:  The next Alicorn in line, originating from a Water Tribe.  She has not been seen for the last 1000 years.
Celestia: The current Alicorn, originating from the Fire Nation.  'The Tyrant'
Twilight Sparkle:  Protégé of the current Alicorn, hailing from the Fire Nation.
Applejack: The heir of a prominent clan within the Earth Kingdom.
Rarity: A travelling 'merchant' from the Northern Water Tribe.
Rainbow Dash: An Air Nomad and a personal friend of Twilight Sparkle.
Pinkie Pie: A pony who left her comfortable life behind to join Fluttershy in exile.
Fluttershy: From a influential Pegasi clan within the Fire Nation, her dishonour has compelled her clan to distance themselves from her and her homeland to exile her.

Applebloom: Under the 'Tutelage' of a Fire Nation Noble.
Scootaloo: A 2nd class citizen of the Fire Nation.

Ditzy Doo: Air Nomad - Mail Pony / Odd Jobs!
Zecora: Swamp Tribal - Travelling Nomad
Blueblood: Nobility! Of somewhere...
