Alot of people think that way... I think.
But if it was just men being girly, why has it only started recently?  As far as I'm aware, there wasn't quite such a large male fanbase for previous generations of the franchise.

Well, personally I tell people that I found out about the show because it has a cult following on he forum for the world's most violent videogame; Or at least I would, if it ever came up.

Pretty much all the background characters' names are fanon. And Cupcakes is a famous fanfic about Pinkie Pie making cupcakes out of her friends; I'll spare you the details.
