I actually like it this way. I found the the Sailor Moon-ish pilot to be rather mediocre. Character-driven plots are much more interesting, IMO.

It would have been cool to go the Samurai Jack approach and have a few episodes be about their daily lives but yeah, meddling. Too bad, really.

Plus, if it took them a whole season to beat Nightmare Moon then it'd be dark the entire time.

There isn't going to be any Luna in the finale.

Lauren herself confirmed Luna isn't coming back til season 2.

...Wait, is that a "Luna will not be in season 1", or is it a "Luna will not be in season 1, but she will be in season 2"?  Do we know any more about how much screentime and importance she has?

She must be doing community service or something to atone for her evil doings.  I can't see it any other way, from how the pilot ended...  Surprise me though...

Luna's probably just reigning over the kingdom. Handling paperwork to make grass grow, negotiating a trade agreement with the emissary of the sea ponies, stuff like that. The reason she never appears on the show is because she doesn't really know any of the ponies of the main cast. Twilight isn't her student.

She was executed for committing terrorist acts against the state and her vengeful ghost will form the storyline of season 2, which will have a far more horrific edge.

I mean...The Great and Powerful Trixie has plenty of powers, but they're just not all that practical.  I think that Luna could really teach The Great and Powerful Trixie a thing or two.

Except that Luna seems an awful lot younger than even before her inprisonment now, but oh well.  :/

Sigh.  I can only wish for a Luna + Gilda + The Great and Powerful Trixie episode.

I always figured Celestia was all "Hey Luna, welcome back. Since I didn't get the hint about how having to administrate night made you all bitter and angry last time, how about you take care of it again? Handling both the sun and the moon takes up so much of my time. I have to read all these letters Twilight keep sending me, you know."

That's why we never get to see her, she's awake at night, when everyone everypony else is sleeping.

My favorite explanation (backed up in a few fanart pictures) is that we haven't seen Luna in a while because 1000 years ago, the nightclub had not yet been invented.

On a related note; My sister got me a genuine My Little Pony for my birthday yesterday, supposedly as some kind of semi-joke. It was some kind of wingless Rainbow Dash imposter. Presumably the Friendship is Magic real ponies hasn't reached Swedish toy stores yet.

Is it a bad sign that I'm a bit disappointed?  :-[
