I honestly believe that the producers wanted to make us get a completely wrong idea from it. They probably marketed it towards teenagers!

Those amazing bastards.

The whole cutie mark thing was a rather obvious analogy for puberty, so I think you're right.

All cartoons and "Childrens" games are marketed towards adults. I know several cartoons that I sure as hell wouldn't let my daughter watch X3

I grew up in the age just preceding Ren & Stimpy, and that was the first cartoon I ever didn't like.  In fact I didn't like hardly anything from that generation onwards, which is sad.  :(

I was a Sonic the Hedgehog SatAM and Gargoyles and TaleSpin kind of kid...  And Looney Tunes and Rocky & Bullwinkle...  :/

I feel old...

I find that a little hard to reconcile, since Ren & Stimpy were actually from a couple years prior to SatAM/Gargoyles/Tailspin (a connoisseur's lineup to be sure), although all were firmly early-90s.  Then again, a lot of people are confused by just what micro-era Ren & Stimpy belong to, since it was a relatively small number of episodes, but got repeatedly syndicated to a bunch of different timeslots and channels for more than a decade.  Most people don't remember or know about them debuting alongside Rugrats and Doug, an odd trio if ever there was one.  I do vaguely remember that event, although I was four years old.

Huh, okay.

I coulda sworn that Tailspin at least predated Ren & Stimpy.  I can't remember what else I watched before that but I knew there were at least some things...  I tolerated Doug and Rugrats at least.  I still think of those as "newer" shows.  How weird.

I think Ren & Stimpy were mostly not on when I was watching TV probably, too.  Huh.

I have this dirty feeling inside me. It's like I could never tell anyone I watched this except for the people who already feel the same way. Like you guys.

This is from a guy who spent several years up until now unimpressed with cartoons. Except for Adventure Time, which won me over when I saw an episode that had the fat Shetland pony/pig/thing from Hark! A Vagrant.

I don't know why I don't stop watching. The RAINBOWS and MAGIC are over the top, and yet, it seems to make it seem like so many "adult" works are over the top with themes like HER GRANDMA DIED BOOHOO and I'M GONNA SHOOT YOU. It's like a direct contrast.

Doesn't stop it from being the most guilty of pleasures I can ever remember partaking in.

I honestly can't tolerate more than a few minutes of this show at a time, and that makes me feel more secure in my manhood.

I'm in the age group that I could publicly watch this anyway.

I am lost at what this means. If it means anything really, seeing as I am still younger.

Well, I meant more age/gender, were someone to see me watching it, it'd be like, "ah, whatever, ponies and stuff"

Our lives up to this point have been but a prelude, to prepare us for the reality of ponies.

...this show's actually a documentary, isn't it.

It is a documentary.
It's a documentary of everyone watching it.
You get to see who people really are on the inside. All over the internet.
