There's no possible way for Discord to have turned Fluttershy without cheating. For everyone but Fluttershy and Rarity, he turned them by showing them the darker sides of their element.

Applejack: Brutal, painful honesty.
Pinkie: Mocking laughter.
Dash: You can't stay loyal to everybody and sometimes have to make a choice.

Rarity's conversion was mostly a gag. A huuuuuuuuge~ HUNK of a DIAMOND!

Except kindness and generosity, these aren't perfect virtues and that's what Discord is using against them to ultimately make them abandon their element.

There appears to be something called "Bronies," which I suppose is a male fanboy for My Little Ponies. The female "fangirl" version appears to be "pega sis?"

The lolmart flash intro (which is annoying hard to link to they took down due to homophobic and "no homo" comments ) on locats shows two "bronies" one pink and one purple with 5 o'clock shadow and a "male" sign branded on the hip, flying across the screen while both shoot a rainbow out of their butts.... (Sort of like NyanCat) They then come together and do a fist bump "bro hoof." 

I found this somewhat funny.

There's some debate whether "brony" is gender neutral or not. I think it is, but I don't care enough to argue with anyone who thinks otherwise (and yeah pega-sis is catching on as a female version. Not quite as catchy though).

Meh, doesn't really matter here.  Its up to our local fangirls deciding to call themselves that or not, since I expect most of us to be male.

Actually, I saw Discord as much more of a mixed bag than that. He subverted RD and PP by essentially giving a different interpretation to the implications of their traits (Pinkie is still making people laugh, just in a different way. Rainbow Dash is still being loyal, just to someone other than the mane six.) whereas with AJ, Rarity and Fluttershy, he caused other aspects of their personailties to come to the surface. All three were directly opposed to their normal attitudes (IMO, of course), in that AJ isn't honest about anything, while Rarity exhibits greed instead of selflessness, and Fluttershy turns from somewhat of a yandere (if you really look at her personality, think about what it would be like if there weren't the content restrictions. Even within the confines of the show, her flipouts are pretty scary. Those critters better love her back OR ELSE.) to somewhat of an opposite to that. I do agree that Discord was lazier with her than with the others (likely because she was too nice to properly corrupt, so he just gave up and slapped her with the bitch-stick), but it wasn't entirely cut and dried.
