33f Hooch problem?
« on: December 16, 2007, 01:55:00 am »

I am not certain if this is a bug, or just Toady's attention to detail.

I have a nice magma vent underneath a glacier, which is cool as it's melted a nice cave for me to enter. Also neat is the fact that the "entrance" of the cavern has Outside Light Above Ground near it's entrance that rapidly converts to Inside Dark Subterranean. Terribly cool.

Except my Booze is exploding. Sorta. Take a look; http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/381/winepopyn4.png    <--63k png

From (Dwarven Wine Barrels (Tower-Cap) <1> )
To (Dwarven Wine 5)

They start out as barrels, then they look like purplish (light for rum, darker for wine) river pieces. All my booze is slowly turning this way, but it is not vanishing... It's either the fact that the Cold is making booze expand, freeze, and break the barrel, or it's a bug.

My Mega starting stockpile (to drag all my stuff away from the wagon) is inside in the Subterranean area, however my kitchen and still are outside in the snow. Could the fact that it was brewed "ice filtration style" outside somehow? Or is it the fact that it's a freezing map and the cave is exposed to the cold wind? I've had Glacier Fortresses before and this has never happened, even when the booze was stored directly in the middle of the outside glacier.

Thank you for your time,
Michael E. Finn

PS, aside of the fancy schmancy tiles and color scheme, I am unmodded, Temp and all that is on, and I built the fortress and world with this patch.
PPS, For some reason, ImageShack can't seem but to take phone modem speeds to offer the 63k png, sorry bout that.

Ale just exploded, and it's... grey? What the hell is in cave wheat to make it grey, Charcoal?

The question is this, rather: what's -not- in cave wheat?  ;)

That said, I wouldn't be surprised if the transition from outside to magma-heated inside is causing frozen booze to convert to liquid and bursting the container; the drink is then preserved by the fact that it's on a food stockpile, even though it'd otherwise evaporate.

Oh they evaporated, but despite being a stack of five wine...chunks they were drinkable, so to speak...
See those barrels though? half are food, and the rest booze. They were fine In/as barrels, but after a while the barrel vanished, leaving just the booze, which was somewhat carryable. I moved my food to the floor below and some disintegrated in the hands of the dwarfs, the rest were stuffed into new barrels.

I was just wondering if anyone else had this happen, and if this was in fact a bug or not.

Do the barrels get X's around them first?  Non-booze barrels disappearing?

I don't know if you've sat and watched the barrels or not, but if you haven't... Are the dwarves emptying the barrels to use them for something else?

Nope, its only booze barrels, and they have no Xs, unless they get them so fast I cannot register it, and the amount of barrels is decreasing in the stocks window. But the booze is fine for a little while (till it thaws maybe?). It is still drinkable by the dwarfs while it exists, and carryable until it vanishes.

And no Nesoo, One them, the grey ale barrel above, died in front of my eyes, and it was a plain non X barrel about 30 seconds before. No dwarfs on that level at all.

I dunno what's up then.  If you've got a save I can probably figure it out, provided there's a barrel that's going to disappear within some reasonable timeframe.
