Zazit's diary, Granite 100:By all the gods, even the elven ones, what am I doing here ? My head hurts and I can't remember anything. All around me I can see nothing but dead plants, foul vermin and murky water. It seems whatever got us here left some supplies in a broken wagon. I say us, because I'm not alone! There are six girls here with me, and I can't decide if I'm in heaven or in hell. They all look completely clueless, and whatever they're doing is done so clumsily. The fisher is trying to catch fish with her hands, and the woodcutter is trying to cut tree with the handle of her axe... I guess it's up to the man here to get things moving! First order of business : get rid of the cats!

Fath's diary, Slate 100:The earth here is very nice. As soon as I opened my eyes I saw several rich veins of gold and hematite, and it turns out the inside of the earth is just as rich. I've been digging down for only a couple dozen level when I hit semi-molten rock! Already ? We're barely 50 level below the surface, this can't be right!
Mafol's diary, Hematite 100:Mining is easy! Fath's supposed to teach me but I'm almost as good as her already! I've been digging in the gold in the lower level to see how far the vein went, and stumbled on some kind of open space area. Fath told me to wall it down and shut my mouth. There was a huge spider down there, so I agreed and walled it off hastily. Still, there's water and magma down there, and plenty of beautiful white stone. It sure beats this gray stone everywhere near the surface. I think we're going to dig our lodgings here.

Rovod's diary, Malachite 100:I've seen them. The others don't believe me, but I've seen them. Some foul, bony creature by the surface. I'm certainly not going out there anymore ! The miners have dug out living areas almost at the bottom of the earth. I certainly don't mind, the farther I am from up there, the better.

It seems Fath and Mafol like to torture me! Zazit asked me to go guard our cloth and splints that are still by the broken wagon near the surface, and I told him I'd only go there in a full suit of steel plate mail. Guess what these two demons came up with today? A suit of steel plate, complete with leather cloak and battle axe. I don't know how they managed to find steel here, but I've seen them talking to the two lumberjacks Tekkud and Urvad, and I smelled smoke coming from below all day. They're all against me! Fine! I'll stand by my word and guard their stupid supplies.
Zazit's diary, Galena 100:I asked our two miners to dig out the last square of floor to separate us from the wilderness, but they're refusing to, spending time digging out hematite and marble for the lumberjacks. I told these two to carve beds and barrel out of the trees they fell, but they just laugh and set the logs on fire, the wood turning black and useless. At least it's not a complete loss, since Fath and Mafol somehow managed to make steel armor out of it for Rovod. Now maybe she'll go up there and guard our previous cloth. I wish someone would listen to me, I'm the Overseer!
Etur's diary, Galena 100:I thought we were dead for sure, but Asmel was right! The smoke in the distance was not from a forest fire but from a controlled furnace burning wood to make charcoal. His blacksmithing experience is certainly coming in handy. The same can't be said for the 5 women accompanying us. Soap Makers, Lye Makers, Tanners, Glassmaker, all useless. At least Muthkat can cook...
We met with Zazit, who turned out to be the only man here. He claims he's the leader, but it doesn't look like he holds much power. When he told to take the head of the military and train Rovod because I had experience with some guarding business, I declined. I certainly don't want to keep babysitting these women any longer. Angry, he told me I'd either go up there and teach Rovod how to fight or get out. As I went to fetch a blunt steel axe by the forge, I crossed paths with Rovod, smiling. She had just recruited four of our five women for her little army. And I have to train them as well. Just great.
Rovod's diary, Limestone 100:Thief! A little kobold was spotted by our entrance dog and we charged. Sadly, all this steel is rather heavy, I can dodge adequately now thanks to Etur's instructions, but running is almost impossible. We abandoned chase and returned to our training.
Zazit's diary, Timber 100:Asmel managed to convince the woodcutters to stop making steel and smelt gold and aluminum for a while. He promised them luxurious dining arrangements, but I'm not sure anyone shares his... particular tastes...
Etur's diary, Timber 100:More people arrived today... 2 men and 6 women ! What is up with these woods, we're now at 5 men for 17 women, something isn't right! Why is it only women seem to wander around here ? Rovod's convinced 4 more girls to join the military, even though we have yet to receive out last pieces or armor. I'm now the only man in a squad of 10.
Zazit's diary, Moonstone 100:![](http://img810.imageshack.us/img810/4992/caravan.png)
Salvation at last, a dwarven caravan has arrived. I immediately met with the head of the rescue party, and went to announce the good news to everyone : we're getting out of here! The news was met with a certain lack of enthusiasm. Asmel has asked me to come and check out his newest statue of three forgotten beasts down in the forges, I'll go down there but I doubt the merchant's horses will be able to bear it.
Asmel's diary, Moonstone 100:I've lured the fool in the forges and the four girls have cornered him between their forges. It seems Zazit doesn't like their fire and is too scared to move. There's no way I'm getting out of here, this is my chance to become a legend! The miners and smelters have all agreed to follow my plan and the recruits just bow down to Rovod. I've taken over his meeting with the diplomat, asked him to send us some lye next year. Lye, and diamonds ! I need expensive gems incrusted in my masterpieces! I then promptly sent him away.
Zazit's diary, Moonstone 100:The diplomat has left without us! The merchants say they can't take us with them without his order, but are still willing to trade. Nobody will tell me what happened, and I'm still shaking from those horrible fires all over. And the smell ! I've never going down to the forges again.
I traded some of Muthkat's meals for a couple a silk cloth, some leather and lots of raw meat and fish. I would have done without the silk, but our cook wasn't pleased to learn she had to do her work all over again, so I bought it to appease her. Maybe I'll even let her do something with it, we'll see.
Rovod's diary, Moonstone 100:Horror! The skeletal beasts are upon us, and they're huge! Now that they're distracted by the merchant guards, this is our chance! Charge!
![](http://img811.imageshack.us/img811/3460/skelefight1.png)
Victory! We won with just a couple of bruises. I got scared when one of our own was pushed into the open area, falling down one level, but she's all right.

I've used this battle to test out some of Etur's lessons. He says attacking with my axe is better than biting, but it seems equally effective. I'm beginning to doubt him, even more since I could swear I saw him swipe away the injured merchant guard's mace away during the battle. I have a couple girls training in hammers to serve justice when the time comes.
Etur's diary, Opal 100:Another thief appeared today. I told Rovod it was useless to run after him, as we would never catch him, but they went anyway.
Rovod's diary, Obsidian 100:![](http://img716.imageshack.us/img716/3263/elephanty.png)
More beasts appeared while I looked in the horizon. They look fleshy though, so I've asked Stukos our stoneworker to make some traps around our shack. Maybe we can lure some in here, then train them to fight their undead brethren !
Zazit's diary, Obsidian 100:One more year! One more year here and the diplomat will return and take us out of here! I'm going to document our floor plans and post maps around the entrance, so that other dwarves can use this shelter once we're gone.

Despite all my efforts, the others continue smelting metal and making furniture, weapons and armor. We won't be able to take it with us, but they don't seem to mind... I tried to organize their shifts a bit at least, but they ran late and will have to catch up. There shouldn't be more than a month's work.
