And in that day Ashot would be able to get more supplies and men into the city and move the AAs around. Plus Gauss rifles can do some major damage.
The sky fortress could fight forever. Ashot's supplies and army isn't unlimited. Eventually his army would be worn down to nothing, even with supplies. The fortress could just start again where it left (or even at the beginning), as a robot, it could do this forever, so time would be on his side.

EDIT: and not really, its pretty beefy, i doubt that they would be able to kill it in any reasonable time frame, so retreat wouldn't be that big of a deal.

I'm pretty sure that was the reason the Empire of the Rising Sun built it in the first place. They were losing, so, being Alternate Reality Japan, they built a massive, loyal, self-aware robot to continue the fight even if they were defeated.

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

Just my point of view on this, but couldn't the Freedom forces simple engage it with fast-moving vehicles, before it gets to the city?

Considering the amounts of vehicles in the Zone, that is quite a possibility. A few BTRs driving around and a few lucky Freedomers with RPGs can take that out.

They'd have to beat down the Monolith and acquire plenty of car batteries or flash artifacts, dood.

RPG's are the bare minimum they need to kill the Giga.
The BTR's are just as good as IFV's against Kirovs.

Gauss rifles are anti-personell, they would be completely useless against a giga fortress, as it would be unable to pierce the armor.

The BTR's are closed with a machine gun on the top. People would have to get out to shoot a rocket launcher, and the emplacement machine gun would be useless.

Since i don't see any reason why it couldn't stay out of range of city anti-air and just bombard it from far away, the only way to defeat it would be sending people in cars at it.

Also, do they use (or even have) any moving AA guns in the stalker?

Actually, should they acquire the EM-1 Rifle used in Clear Sky, things toast.

I doubt it would have enough power to penetrate the armor and toast the electronics. The giga fortress would also be sheilded against electromagnetic attacks, so it would need to a nuclear EMP or equivalent probably.
And mainly, there is only one of them, and i don't think the merchant or his faction ever had access to it.

However the Gauss Rifle is mass produced, so I guess reverse engineering isn't too hard for Freedom since researching the Zone was one of their main goals like the Ecologists.

They have Gauss rifles, but they are significantly different from emp rifles, and would take time that they don't have.
But mainly it would be useless against the giga fortress, even if they had access to a thousand of them.
