Magma + Water Floods
« on: December 15, 2006, 10:20:00 pm »

Something's borked here too.  Due to some missing channel (the sqare had ashes on it, but no channel) I ended up with water permenently residing in my channel I was using to flood the gate area with magma.

So, I rebuilt the channel and opened the floodgate for the magma (there now only being one channel space between the two) and....DF crashed with a Windows error report.

Based off the same save you already have Toady.

Did this occur in the version after the other magma floodgate crash bug fix?

Just had it happen with the Dec 15 version.  Magma and water in the same channel makes the game go splodey.  Water falling into a magma channel makes steam, and I assume magma falling into a water channel does the same before it encounters the magma channel trying to fill a water channel or vice versa and causing a crash.
(My game isn't set up for magma falling into a water channel, so I can't check that, but I observed the other two).

Ah, that's much better.  No crashes.  I've never done it before, so I'm not exactly sure what to expect, but based on the wiki, there should be more steam (water on the ground falling into the magma filled channel), but I only had 2 isolated pockets once the channel filled up.
On was by a swamp/lake the other by a square of land that had a tree on it before the channel was dug (so there's a hole in the middle of the 3x3 channel).  Not sure of the significance of either, but if there's supposed to be more steam then I'm not seeing it.

Thanks Toady   :)

Edit:
Ok, the no-steam doesn't happen all the time.  It just worked perfectly (after a weird instance of the magma cuasing a water-unflood)
