Linux-compatible games that you liked
« on: January 06, 2011, 11:40:57 am »

At the moment I've only three games installed on this computer: Wesnoth(installing it atm), Dominion 3 and Dwarf Fortress. So I was wondering, could you people recommend some other games to run?

No, they all have Linux downloads I believe. At least, all of the ones specific to Bundle 2. Pretty sure of the same about the other bundle's game but I could be wrong.
I love Sauerbraten, personally. Open-source FPS with an engine and graphics on par with a lot of modern FPS games (though nowhere near Crysis or anything like that). Also, it's a little like Minecraft, which also runs on Linux!

Oh, and DF. Duh.

Neverwinter Nights, Unreal Tournament, OpenTTD, Eschalon I and II, Minecraft, there are seriously too many to mention.

Warzone 2100, the open-source version. The design-it-yourself vehicle gimmick that it's most famous for is somewhat overrated, but it's the only RTS I've ever played that really simulates proper indirect-fire weapons.

Never used Dwarf Therapist, mods or tilesets in all the years I've been playing.
I think Toady's confusing interface better simulates the experience of a bunch of disorganised drunken dwarves running a fort.

Black Powder Firearms - Superior firepower, realistic manufacturing and rocket launchers!

*cough* WINE *cough*  ;)

Other than that, yeah, everything in the Humble Indie Bundles was built for Linux. Anything written in Java works (not that many games, admittedly, but Minecraft has already been mentioned). And, of course, you can always download Flash and have a ball on your favourite Flash website.  ;)

TUX RACER

Hedgewars.  Quake games and probably a lot of Unreal-engine games.

It's not free, but Uplink is pretty damn fun, especially with some of the mods. Darwinia/Multiwinia and Defcon are also available on Linux, but I've yet to play them.

As far as roguelikes go, Angband and variants are pretty awesome, and I know at least some of them support Linux.

Dominions 3 supports Linux, IIRC.

And of course there's a veritable bounty of Java and Flash games out on the interwebs that will work just fine.

Good luck!

GearHead and sequel.
Also, emulators.
So far, I have DeSmuME and DOSBox running great natively, no$ runs great in WINE, just not for DS, VBA runs natively, but has less features than no$, and T98-next in WINE.

Heh, I can vaguely remember playing that.  PS1, wasn't it?  How does the open source version compare to the original, and is it Windoze compatible?

How about DOSBox, personally, I find it runs much better than Wine.
