Thank the gods that wasn't a referance to the line from Clerks 2, which is where my thoughts went immediately upon reading the topic. Funny but I prefer the story the books had, no matter how amuseing that was.

Randal Graves: [describing the Lord of the Rings Trilogy] Here's the first movie.
[walks a few steps, staring blankly]
Randal Graves: And here's the second movie.
[walks a few steps again, pretends to trip]
Hobbit Lover: He is way off, loser.
Randal Graves: You ready for the third movie?
[walks yet again, stops, pretends to throw the ring into the volcano. Shrugs his shoulders and turns around]

You forgot how Randal said the movie should have ended.
Quote
Randal Graves:If he really wanted to wow me with those fucking hobbit movies he would have ended them on their logical conclusion point
Hobbit Love:Oh yeah? And what was the logical conslusion point?
Randal:When frodo wakes up from his little nap and all the little hobbits are hopping around on his bed and sam leans in and gives him that very gay look.
Elias:Please Randal, say what you will about Jesus but leave the rings out of this
Randal:*cencered*
I'll give you a hint, his suggestion involved oral, scat, and made the hobbit lover puke

Scenes from movies are not funny when transcribed.

I remember talking about awesome ending points for the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Good candidates for an abrupt ending, with a surprise jump shot to the end credits, are

1) The one in the video in the original post;
2) Anytime Frodo receives a wound that should be fatal (Ringwraith sword to the shoulder; Shelob stinger to the torso)
3) Right after Gollum bites Frodo's finger off;
4) When Denethor II runs burning off of the top of Minas Tirith (preferably with fitting music being played as he falls, such as the chorus to Disco Inferno, Yakety Sax, etc.)

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I like the books far more than the movies. Gimli is cooler for one thing.
