It's not just mud that spreads apparently but blood splatters as well...or it's some weird combination. I've got splatters which is spreading anywhere including inside, but which isn't cleaned up at all.

I've noticed that mud partially dries up in the winter, but not TOTALLY. The problem is that it's still getting tracked around.

If you are having problems with being unable to smooth tiles because they're now mud floor instead of rock, try laying flooring. Sure, it takes forever, but HOW DEDICATED ARE YOU?  :D

Skyrage, blood and vomit will spread everywhere too, but they don't destroy tiles.

SquidDNA, not that dedicated. Either way flooring is something different. The point is there's no reason why my floor should be gone to begin with!

Edit: Nor any reason that my obsidian stairway got destroyed by a sapling. (And assuming I kept playing the fortress I couldn't build another one there for years.)

Right, we get that there's a bug, but there are workarounds for your current situation.

I imagine you can build a new stairway on top of the tower cap sapling, and even if you can't, I know I've channeled away saplings outside, so I imagine that should do it for you.

If for some bizarre reason you absolutely can't stand mud floors, build new floors over them.

Eiba, correction, there are workarounds to avoid my current situation. Anyways, the fort has been moved to a backup file for now. It isn't being played. And the main reason this thread won't die (which I admit it probably should,) is because I (for some bizarre reason) feel inclined to respond to replies.

And yes, the mud bothers me. And no, I don't want to build new floors, it's not the same thing. And no, I definitely don't want to start channel removing dead saplings in my main hall.

He he he.  Yeah, it almost looks done...  alas...  those who are in your teens, hold on until your twenties...  those in your twenties, your thirties...  others, cling to life as you are able...<P>It should be pretty fun though.

Best workaround is to use bridges (as has been mentioned) or grates. Neither of which allows mud to be tracked.

Don't complain about there not being a fix yet. We made Toady take a vacation.

Smooth tiles can still be muddy and track mud - but they do prevent things from growing. Which is good.

Err, I don't remember demanding Toady make an instant fix.

+ some of my smooth tiles have turned into permanent mud.

Look, I'm sure Toady has read this thread at this point. Let it die, there's no reason repeating what many others have already said.
