Double post due to time differential.

Spoiler: Game screen (click to show/hide)

It's insides are a convoluted mess, it will probably only run on a fairly new (2-3, maybe 4 years old) computer despite only requiring .NET 2.0, and I am loving every minute of making it.

The game is a four-flag king of the hill. Very much inspired by Arathi Basin in World of Warcraft. Each unit has its own brain, and the AI overbrain attempts to herd them along. This has been a source of frequent hilarity for me. FREQUENT HILARITY.

HEY EVERYBODY GUESS WHAT DAY IT IS

That's correct, February has begun! The contest is officially open for submissions. Remember to post here when you start and when you finish, and PM me a download of some kind! Also remember that if your code is not compiled, I probably don't have all the necessary files to run it, so you should link me to those, too.

That said, everybody get crackin'!

I got a free weekend. But I'm going to wait until then to decide whether I will spend it programming a Roguelike :)

This is crazy, after tons of people that were so eager to participate they started early, there is suddenly complete silence now that we are actually live :)

I'm still planning on participating, just waiting for the right time I guess.

3 days isn't a lot of time if you have not made a rogue like before. A lot of us can not get 3 days of freedom. I know I can't. I've been working 6 or 7 days a week with 10 to 14 hour days all January. If I could get 3 days of freedom, I would give it a shot. Hell, I might try to get something going anyway, but there  chance it can be done in 3 days.

Clearly everybody is either working hard, or resting prior to the big push.

I'm just resting.

I'm going to wait until I rewrite the program I am using for this, so that I don't have to spend very much time on the rendering (why use someone else's work?). If this was 7 days, or even 10, I would include time spent on the graphics system in that time, but 3 days, in my opinion, is only enough to write the actual game.

I'll be starting coming week-end probably. Have thus far been quite occupied with the coming conference we're organizing. I can give you a description of the game though:

Several FPS games, like Unreal Tournament or Quake 3 have profiled themselves as a blood sports tournament, where gladiators fight for the viewers of the future. My idea is to take that concept and put you, the gamer, in the seat of the organizer of such a tournament. You'd have to hire gladiators, plan maps, get weapon and power-up contracts and arrange for some epic fights, so people will watch your blood sports channel instead of the opposition. Gladiators, weapons and power-ups will be generated procedurally, so you always have plenty of things to chose from. Spawning them and respawning gladiators would cost money though, so you've got to balance fight time (which would get more interesting fight shots) with the expenses associated with it and make sure your camera's are always at the right spot.
If I've got the time I'll see if I can also implement some side events, such as getting contracts for army practice, organizing special annual tournaments or setting up your own leagues in which fighters can participate for prizes.

Looking good, Kitteh! I'm interested to see the finished product.

Still trying to figure out a start time for me... or what I'm planning to do, for that matter. :P

I call it "Large Burly Croatian Men: Dance In Synchronicity"
This is absolutely the most accurate description.

I don't know if I'll be able to get any more done with it, So I'll put it up now. If I can find an hour or two tomorrow, I'll clean it up a bit.

WASD+mouse. Figure out the rest, cause I'm going to sleep.
