If I recall, in Silent Assassin you were allowed one (1) of a gunshot, a non-target kill, or possibly a suspicion.  If you got more than one of all three of those combined, or an alert, you lost the SA rating.  Yes, that means that if you shoot your target, you can't do any of the others.  (It might have been 2 allowed instead of 1)

(it was IMPOSSIBLE to get silent assassin grade in every mission IIRC)
I might dispute that, but I haven't bothered to try and get it on every mission. There ARE unlockables for getting SA rating on every mission(at least, the PS2 version), so it's likely possible.

Which mission do you think it's impossible to? (talking about Silent Assassin here)

The japan mission before the castle. Disguises don't work and you have to take a tunnel route which provides no cover and your enemies have night vision. Professional grade is possible if you just run once you get an alert.

I am 95% sure I got Silent Assassin on that mission.  It was the last mission I did Silent Assassin before I got bored of trying to get them all.

That fucking tunnel. There *IS* cover, and there are trucks you can hide in.  Also, getting shot at by the snipers topside do not count as alerts.  You can absolutely get SA on that mission as long as you are very patient and very very good at guessing exactly which pillar to hide behind, and when.

Still.

That fucking tunnel.  Hate.  Cool in concept.  It's a fun thing to HAVE played.  But it's no fun at all while you're playing it.

Hide in a truck.

I just remembered that the one after that(where you actually kill the Yakuza boss) is probably impossible to get SA on. There's no way that I know of to get past all the ninjas, particularly on the floor below your target. Might have something to do with the bomb you've got, I'm not sure.

Contracts is the worst, I couldn't get into it and lost interest in the mission with the crazy S&M party.

I got silent assassin in the castle mission itself, since a disguise becomes fair game there but in the tunnel even hopping in a truck doesn't help since the patrolling guards have effing night vision and can spot you in the trucks bunk as well.

I played a few missions of Contracts but it was terrifyingly buggy to a point where, in one mission literally ever guard on the map would home in on my location regardless of what I did and where I hid. It happened every time at one point during the mission and made the game unbeatable, or at least, unbeatable without going on a shooting spree.

I just played the tutorial mission in Blood Money.  That was pretty entertaining.  Hopefully they step off the babysitting next mission though.

Yeah, there's basically zero babysitting in the next one.  Almost too little if you ask me, but 'sall good.

IIRC, I managed to kill him via poisoning his food before it was taken to him.  If I'm thinking of the right level, I got SA.
