More ghost wagon weirdness
« on: November 04, 2007, 08:48:00 pm »

Current version -

When the humans arrived at my new fort with their wagons, they pulled the neat trick where the wagons drop through a couple of z-levels to access my depot.

However, I just had another bug where after the wagons ghosted their way into my fort, they set up shop to trade as per normal and things seemed to be going fine. During trade, the humans had come with a bunch of large iron armor, which I bought in order to melt down into iron for my own use. However, after purchasing the iron items, they somehow "disappeared" in that they were said to located at the depot when I used 't' over it, but the items would not show up in the stocks menu.

After the humans packed up, they then 'disappeared' also (never left the map normally, they just kinda vanished somehow). The iron armor I had traded for still showed that it was in the depot, but was still not in the stocks menu and was still unretrievable. As such, I tried to dismantle the depot to get the items, but when the depot was taken apart, they disappeared completely. However, the regular trade items (cloth and stuff) remained and was moved to the respective stockpiles. I haven't tried repeating this yet, but will see what happens when the humans arrive again next year.

I like the wagon phasing trick-- I noticed it actually appeared on levels deeper than the one where the trade depot was, too.

I've read other reports about armor disappearing after it's been bought.

I also just observed both of these bugs. The human wagons phased two z-levels down both on arrival and on departure, slowly going through the interior of my fortress, ignoring walls etc., and surfacing next to the trade depot like nothing had happened. This was despite the fact that the trade depot was actually located on the same z-level as the wagons to begin with (and accessable). It might be of note that on both occasions, the wagons took the dive right after reaching my self-constructed wall/fortification barrier. On departure, one of the wagons actually went through the wall for one tile before ghosting two levels down to go under it.

I also got the purchased armor bug with two separate caravans. However, in my case after deconstructing the trade depot the armor pieces did not disappear, but on the contrary (re-)appeared in the stocks menu and were promptly stored in the armor stockpile as usual.

At the same time as I was marveling at the ghost wagon and armor bugs, I also got the chance to observe two other known bugs, namely the trade liaison not leaving after concluding the meetings and the goblin siegers not moving from the map edge. Quite an eventful season  :(
