Axels will burn but will not be destroyed

I was pumping magma into nearby river, and my screw caught fire and was destroyed. however, my Axels survived the fire and are still intact. Intended?

Wood items can take damage now, but there are probably some issues with translating building damage through to the wood.  Are the items making up the axles surrounding by X's or anything yet?

The axles didn't seem effected by the fire at all.
