I put my bulk tombs in a room that runs along a hallway adjacent to the hospital and dining room, respectively.

Dwarves I like get personal burial rooms connected to their bedrooms - which isn't creepy at all.

I have one large coal vein that's contained all my dwarves thus far, but it's full now.

Will probably just put more coffins in the used strip mining areas.

I also use a mined-out mineral vein as a communal cemetery, smoothed and engraved, with private tombs made from the occasional gem cluster. When the vein splits into two directions and leaves a pocket of ordinary stone in the middle I'll hollow that out for the same purpose, or else turn it into a sculpture park.

Never used Dwarf Therapist, mods or tilesets in all the years I've been playing.
I think Toady's confusing interface better simulates the experience of a bunch of disorganised drunken dwarves running a fort.
