It occurs to me that the word "giant" has different meaning for dwarves.

"OH GOD IT'S A GIANT MOLE!" - Urist McThreefeettall

"Oh, it's a larger-than-average mole." - Cerol McHumanofaveragesize

"OH GOD IT'S A GIANT BAT!" - Urist McThreefeettall

"Oh, it's a larger-than-average bat." - Cerol McHumanofaveragesize

"OH GOD IT'S A GIANT DWARF!" - Urist McThreefeettall

"Oh, it's a midget." - Cerol McHumanofaveragesize

I always imagined the Giant Moles and such as about the size of VW Bugs.

GCS are Shelob

Also consider that your average medieval era human was all of about 5' 5"

Eh, yeah, I pictured giant rats and stuff as being unreasonably big, myself. Rats two meters long and GCS a bit like Shelob, yeah.  Of course, that just brings to mind what size a giant leopard is. :o
