I heard about that. It was in South Dakota and they were crapping in farmer's feed so they poisoned them. So only one case is closed.

That's a lot of spooked flocks in the same general area. It's probably something naturally occuring, and it probably happens every once in a while but I don't think the answer is that a few thousand birds who aren't usually spooked get spooked and die in the same area.
Oh my God I just realized. This is like the plot to Condemned. Get your hobo wackin' sticks out, people.

The fact the news is noticing it also helps. This usually goes unreported. And I dare say this unusually cold winter might be killing off quite a few critters.
