Okay okay, so, I've warmed to the idea of Aliens..
And Alien invasion.
Or, to be more spesific...
Bacterial Alien Invasion.

So, some metor with a super-heat resistant supervirus stuck on it hits the ocean... And suddenly we're all hailing our new microscopic overlords.

I just wanna know how long it's gunna take for the bodies to get tested... Assuming they are testing them, right?

They are testing them all, samples from each incident, and the drum fish appear to have died of hypothermia, and the red wing black birds appear to have died from colliding with something, aka the ground...

Hypothermia seems to sit with a cold snap. If only slightly.

As for the birds, that sounds more like an airborne toxin, like pollution, rather than a virus.
But, who knows just as of yet.

Of course, if this is the primordial force of creation just sending out the early psychic death waves to kill off the lesser species....

Testing probably won't reveal a whole lot :P

Merciful deaths for those species who are innocent for the worlds sins and damage?   Thus we will be left to wander a barren wasteland and starve and die, until we are gone, then life will begin again?   Hahah just joking, I'm atheist, I couldn't be a geneticist/physicist otherwise :P

Mice, on the other hand, have yet to leave, so nothing is certain.

Mice are incredibly evil.  They are using us for every experiment imaginable.

Any plausability to those two? Considering, they're the first two that come to mind when anyone says "LOTS OF STUFF HAS DIED MYSTERIOUSLY."

I want to meet the hunter who can kill five thousand blackbirds in less than three hours, all in one spot.  I bet he duck-hunts with an 88mm.

Maybe it's the start of 2012? I dunno. We should just wait and see.

Ya you stand there staring at the skies, I'm just go over here and prepare a bit.  But seriously even if it's not 2012, but freak storms and cold snaps are the cause?  I bet we will see an ice age in our life times.

Dynamite fishing, in a small pond full of spawns. You can probably rack up a few thousand in less than an hour. That's why it's banned in the U.S. (For reasons other than, you know, involving dynamite.)

Even fishing with an electro rod can bring up an entire section of river's fish population to the surface, depending on the voltage and whether or not you want them to live through it.

But that's not applicable here, because that would show in the necropsy.
