Were all out of canned goods, but we have plenty of bibles left!
Alright, fine.  I can just make do with the bibles.  Something to keep the cold off in the dead of night.

Interesting stuff though, first thing that comes to mind is:
"The end is nigh!"

Well if it counts for anything, Queensland, Australia has gone through 40 days and nights of rain, and it basicaly under water right now.

Look it up on it up on a map, Queensland is sort of a big state compaired to your US states.
Australia will henceforth be known as Aqua Texas: Land of the Poisonous Everything.

Oops, I meant Aqua Texas: Ocean of the Poisonous Everything. Just wait until koalas evolve tentacles and start breeding with platypi. Then you'll really be in trouble. :P

Add another 2 million dead fish in Maryland to the pile.

So, I guess the Maryland one is a little less strange, since they know it's happened before.  But still, getting spooky.  Let's make a list.

-Disease
-Pollution
-Cold snap
-Fireworks
-Airplanes
-Aliens

I still honestly think the last one is the most plausible explanation, which is my of saying I've yet to hear an explanation for any event that didn't sound like bullshit.

I'd suggest the start of magnetic pole reversal but we'd know about that pretty damn quickly.

-Disease
-Pollution
-Cold snap
-Fireworks
-Airplanes
-Aliens
Adding two to the list:
-Organic Pollution (Stuff like methene bubbles. happens alot.)
-Hunting
Any plausability to those two? Considering, they're the first two that come to mind when anyone says "LOTS OF STUFF HAS DIED MYSTERIOUSLY."

Hunting and airplanes are both definitely out of the question. It's way too warm for a cold snap.

Fireworks, disease, pollution, and aliens are the best bet.

This "thing" is most likely waterborne. As far as we know it only affects fish shellfish and birds.

It seems to me the best way to avoid this "thing" is to just not drink water if you really are worried. Which you probably should be.

Seriously, what the hell fish and birds. What the hell is wrong with you guys? Why are you dying for no reason? We kinda need you guys to keep my ecosystems stable, and you still haven't finished your job yet.

I don't know why I hire them anymore.

anyone else realize that both those types of animals are heavy scavengers/eat bugs, along with the fact that they are relativily small for the amount of food they eat?  I mean it may vary well be something at the bottom of the food chain with a cumulative type poison in it, that they are eating, thus killing them.  Why they would all die at the same time, god knows.....
Also there were reports of people calling vets and 911, reporting that they weren't all dead, but rather bleeding heavily from the mouth, and nose holes.  Inhaled poison anyone?
