[38c] Brook bleeds water away if dug out
« on: March 23, 2008, 01:44:00 pm »

Brooks seems to have changed, and maybe a new bug was introduced. I channelled out the surface tiles across a brook (to block access) expecting water to flow into the tiles and back into the brook further down stream.

What happened tho was the water from the brook began to 'bleed away' leaving the brook south of cutting to dry out. I've temporarily fixed the problem by pumping water out of the brook upstream and dumping it in down stream, but this seems a half-hearted measure for something I shouldn't need to do.

Temperate is warm:

Here is the problem area, before the pumps were built, this area and the brook north were completely dry:

Here is a video of the dried brook area:

I've not tested it on another map, can someone see if mining out the surface of a brook leaves the brook to the south dry (after a season or so?)...

Regards,

What version was this?  If it's a newer one, I didn't see an aquifer on the embark screen (and that readout is probably right in a newer one), so it wouldn't be an exposed aquifer in the channel causing the fluid to sink.  I'll take a look at a save if you've got one.

I'm using [38c] (edited post). Here's a save from the previous year, not sure what state the fortress is in though:

Aquifer was the first thought of the people on IRC, but I avoid them like the plague. I'm in the process of mining out all of the brook, apart from its source, and reflooding the valley, its the only way I've got water to start flowing in any quantity again on my map.

Okay, I've downloaded it and I'll take a look at some point.

I hollowed out the entire brook to prevent magic draining, and was able to flood my valley this year: http://www.mkv25.net/dfma/map-2464-shieldgears
