Booze all over the floor...
« on: March 23, 2008, 07:46:00 am »

A little while ago, I noticed several stacks of booze on the floor of the food srockpile.  Thing is, the booze wasn't in barrels.  It was quite colorful, actually, and it appeared to all be large stacks of imports.

Upon reflection, I think I've figured out what happened.  I had forbidden a destroyed caravan worth of goods outside the walls a year or two back, but had the gate open to trade with different merchants.  It would seem that forbidding the barrels did nothing to the booze inside, so the dwarves simply took the booze out and carried it to the stockpile.

Alternatively, this happened at about the same time I siezed goods from some snooty elves, who had thrown a fit over a bloodstain on one of the socks I was trying ti trade them.  Maybe the booze was the stuff I had siezed from themm?

I haven't seen dwarves carrying liquids before, and there are a few things that should stop it.  What's the temperature on your map?  There have been some disappearing barrel type problems on cold maps.  Do you see empty barrels?

The map is warm- trees lose their leaves but no snow and nothing freezes.

Might be important to nnote that half my food sttockpile has hot floors from the magma pipe, except that the spilled booze was all at the far end of the stockpile, well away from the hheat.

Most of my booze was fine, the spilled stuff was only a half dozen or so stacks.  It was also all large imported types of booze.  Although this might be just luck, seeing as this fort has reached new records for innefficiency.  All those cave spider remains  deep in the mines from some stray cat, while there's nearly continual miasma from dead things in the food stockpile, and I've given up cooking after the dwarves left about 300 roasts to rot (but they managed to save one stack!)

I didn't notice any more empty barrels than usual,  but then, first, I was more concerned with the constant miasma, and second, empty barrels tend to pile up since the dwarves never manage to haul anything.

I'd lean more toward the barrels disappearing or being emptied rather than liquid itself being hauled, unless you actually saw liquid being hauled.  In any case, I don't have any ideas on this one at this point.

Well, I was just speculating as to the cause.  The only really notable things were 1) all the spilled drinks were close to each other in the stockpile, and 2) it hasn't happened since.
