So, uh... Suddenly kobolds.
« on: January 03, 2011, 06:00:34 am »

So I genned a pocket world and found there to be no dwarves. Delighting in the challenge, I embarked in a prime spot and found... Kobolds. LOTS of kobolds. And piles of large gems.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
This is only half the trove by the way, there are over three and a half pages of kobold civilians. And by civilians I mean they all have knives, or in the case of the hunters, bows and crossbows.

I don't want to abandon, and they're not really harming my settlement, I'm just wondering if this means FBs will be turning up shortly.

A steel equipped squad being sent down there. Just imagine that.

They are a natural resource, mine them for leather.

Too bad you can't make leather out of sentient things.

On the other hand, is there still the bug where if a hostile shows up, everything on the map of its civ will turn hostile suddenly? Because I came across one of these lairs in adventure mode, and not even a highly-skilled, world-renowned, heavily armored axedwarf can survive being mobbed by these numbers, even if they are just kobolds. One of them will eventually stab him in the head with the copper boning knife, tearing the muscle, chipping the skull, jamming the skull into the brain and tearing apart the brain! The axedwarf has been struck down.

Alternatively, it appears that kobolds are the only "civ" you can embark on now.

They might go aggro during a siege, but before a siege happens, consider them your army and first line of defense--goblins and kobold are not friends.

Heh, I can imagine a giant goblin vs. kobold vs. dwarf battle on your fortress grounds when a goblin siege arrives.

I tend to do this, purely for the satisfaction of making my goblin foes into totems decorated with their own bones.

I suggest a bloodbath.  I don't care whose blood it is.

Sadly, the kobolds slaughtered everyone as they went for a drink and I had to reclaim... On reclaim, I found that the kobolds and all their junk was scattered across the map, which led to everyone dying faster. x.x
