Outlaw in a hamlet?
« on: January 02, 2011, 02:43:28 pm »

My adventurer got a mission to kill a particular outlaw, but he/she wasn't at the camp (it just had a spearman and the corpse of what might be a previous adventure, I can't remember) and the map said the ones who gave me the quest said he was in a hamlet a short walk to the west.

So I went there, and can't find him. All the people says he's in the area, but the direction thing in the corner takes me to a point he's not at (possibly the hamlet's center) and the map says he's somewhere in a 3x3 and the end of a road (which the aforementioned point is not in) which he doesn't seem to be in.

Any advice on trying to find him?

You see that little window in the upper left hand corner? When you're in the area the target's suppsoded to be in, it'll give you an almost precise step-by-step navigation to the target. If it say SW you go SW. And so on.

I just said, that didn't work. I went to the exact spot it indicated, and the guy wasn't in sight or in any of the houses you could see from there.

It works for lairs and camps because they're small, but with towns and hamlets it will often point to empty space between shacks.

The direction finder for hamlets and towns appears to only point toward the center of the town.  If you think he's in the town, just check all of the buildings, and he should be in one of them.

^Ah, that worked. I just followed the road and went in the houses along it. Dude was already dead when I got there (even a shield and goblin lightsaber aren't going to keep 10 guys with knives from cutting off both your legs and an arm before you can kill any more than one of them), so I was able to finally get a shield, so more clothes, and plenty of vendor trash.

I love it when a plan comes together.  Enemy is dead and you didn't need to lift a finger!

I bet you can report "your" success to one of the guys that killed him.

This fortress is turning into some kind of supervillain lair or something.

You're lucky that you found the guy, actually.  Most of the time when a bandit leader escapes from me, I can never find him again and I have his quest cluttering up my quests screen.  The direction finder never stops pointing at the abandoned camp, but the leader is long gone.

Actually, if you retire and return immediately, wandered bandit leaders will immediately respawn in to their camp of origin.

Playing a cheesemaker in an average Fortress 'round here would be. Freaking. Terrifying.

Yes. I did. To one the people that actually killed him.
