It's pretty easy to do so if you dedicate every university to it. You can probably get it within a week if you have a significant pool of money and about 5-10 full universities dedicated to it. If not a few days due to luck.

Joined up a little while ago, started ,a new empire, and just found my first ringworld!  Also got my universities to TL32, so I'd say I'm doing alright.  However, looking at the 3D galaxy viewer, The Eternal Lantern is way out in the boonies (96,2,0).

Little question, if a ringworld supports 1000 pop per zone, what happens if a city sits at the border between two zones?

It's only actually "in" one or the other.

Yea, I had about 40 university tech processes running for about a week; but my 5 cities were able to provide enough funds to the capital to keep it working.  My capital also seems to be isolated in terms of wormholes (it has them, but they all dead-end), and my empire is a good 6 sectors away from its nearest neighbor, so I'm not too concerned about invasion.  And of course, there's always luck  ;)

More fun question: I had a ship which was set on cyclic orders to go to one city, pick up high-grade ore, go to another city in the same system, and drop off the ore, get repaired and refueled, and repeat.  So I go back to withdraw funds from the ludicrous amounts of money that this ship generates, and I find it's not in the system anymore.  It's not even in the same sector.  I request the captain's berth and spawn on the ship.  Apparently all the crew members are dead except for the officer, the engineering station guy, and one of two passengers (not sure why I put passengers on there...).  The ship's just deadheading at lightspeed in a random direction with no-one at the helm or navigation station to guide it.  As I've said, there's really no empire within any reasonable distance from me, so what killed the others?  Can crew members starve?

Uh oh.  Better check your remaining crewmembers for strange new tattoos.  If they look like mysterious runes, point the ship at a sun and just run, man.

Sometimes crew will slip out through invisible cracks in your ship. I had one particularly bad one that crew constantly flooded out of in an early design. I think Blug pointed it out for me one day, when he was visiting...and then to Haxus, who tried to get rid of that happening some. Obviously it's still around.

I have to say that I haven't had that happen on my ships, but it's probably just something about the way I design my ships that has prevented me from experiencing it.

Yeah, happened to me when I went to reclaim my ringworld from the Toucanites. I saw on of my dudes(I had everyone select) suddenly start dropping towards the ring. Since I had no desire to divert from my mission, I simply ordered him to commit seppeku garrison his location, which for all I knew was ringworld ocean.

Erm... My town appears to have glitched out on me. I'm unable to change the products of any of my buildings, and since I have no hammers I'm trapped, unable to build any high-tech buildings.

Also I have horrible walk-lag, it's like walking through quicksand. I can look about normally, and the animals seem to have no problems, but my little guy (who ditched his clothing while I was away... >:I ) can't go two steps without running into massive lag.

For the record, my coordinates are 168 E, 25 S, Skaia system, on the planet Skaia II, in the Murder Time Sector. If you're curious or if you have a solution and happen to be passing by, drop in. I'm not in space yet, and I've only the one town, but we have an abundance of stone and cotton and parasitic creatures.

Check your Governance window's Citizens tab. It sounds like you might no longer be Emperor (or whatever you were supposed to be, if you didn't create your own empire).

A new client is being prepped, you can download it after they put it back up later today (most likely).
