Well, at least it stopped me distracting myself from my lessons. I'm terrible like that. As soon as my brain notices I'm learning something, it goes into panic mode and tries to find any way to waste time or avoid doing work.

Yeah. Been tending to my own empire, as I don't know what the situation is around your empire, or where to expand, so I've not done anything but construct a moon base in the capitol system.

Actually the order of events was:
1. Rooster opts to create a species of his own rather than using PTMC's default species, which is a perfectly okay choice. His empire is created by the game near Starborn Dominion territory, in a sector they have claimed as theirs.

5. Starborn Dominion says "YOU HAVE ONE EARTH DAY TO WITHDRAW OR WE WILL DESTROY YOUR BEACHHEAD."
6. PTMC says "THE BASE IS WELL DEFENDED, AND WE ARE MIGHTY AND HAVE REINFORCEMENTS ON THE WAY, YOU WILL REGRET INVADING!"
7. SD immediately pre-emptively attacks and destroys the colony prior to any reinforcements arriving (it was in fact not well-defended at all, the prior boast having been entirely a bluff). PTMC ships in transit turn around and return home.
8. A month later, PTMC warships show up to make SD regret their prior actions. This proves difficult, as there is nobody left in SD to regret anything. Nonetheless, they take SD's capital, crippling their nonexistant players, conquer half of SD's colonies, and then throw some nice parties while promising a better future to the previously abandoned citizens.

Wasn't it the other way around?

The whole thing reminds me of the Ender's Game backstory.

SD: We're going to attack something utterly insignificant.  Nobody should care about it, because planets aren't really people.
