This is a sandbox heist game with very little plot. Time will be moving however fast I want it to, but I'll tell you how much time has past in doing an action. Classes are automated, and always take 7 hours. Sleep can be changed however you want, but try to keep a regular schedule with it.

You're an average person. You struggle through day to day life trying to keep up with tuition, and do your laundry at a local laundromat. Fearing that you won't be able to afford all of your needs, you decided that it's time to change things a little by becoming a thief. You've decided that you'll take two weeks to plan and prepare. The place you'll be robbing is the mansion of a fairly wealthy man in the neighboring town. It has minimum security for some reason, so the money will probably be better off in your hands no matter how you look at it.

The game runs in looping stages.
preparation(1 week - 3 months) > enactment(1 night - 2 days) > free time(variable)

During preparation you have to make a plan for how you'll steal from the target location, this can be anything. You can take as much time as you feel you'll need in preparation and enactment, but the less time for enactment the better.
During free time you can buy equipment from the underground market, a house to use as a base of operations, and weapons. Weapons aren't necessary until we get into assassinations and other high risk heists. You can also use free time to interact with people, or practice your skills. If you can gather people into your group you'll be able to increase your chances of success.

You'll have to take classes and other social events into consideration for each stage of the game. The more suspicious you act, the more people will take notice of you whenever you actually do show your face.
You can go to the underground market to look for a job if you want, but you'll need to get a completed basic set before you can start to do this.
You can prepare to rob several places at once, this extends the preparation time. You cannot rob two places at once until you have someone you know you can trust to do the job. If you don't have someone you can trust to do that they'll run off with the money if there isn't a roll higher than 15.

Your character is just an ordinary college student right now, so the goal is to change him into the best thief in the world I guess. You can get an employer after completing five noticeable heists. The employer will provide you with a day job to use as your cover, and some basic thief gear.

Each large target starts a story arc. Unlike other targets, these targets actually need to be interacted with before the enactment stage can begin. While interacting with a large target you'll have to go undercover to learn as much as possible about the target. You'll have to continually interact with the target, so expect suspicion to rise while in the preparation stage, it can't be helped.

I'd like to third ed boy's questions, and add a few of my own:

I'd also like to suggest some items for us to consider acquiring, assuming we do not have them and can get them reasonably cheaply or steal them without too much trouble.IMPORTANT: do not get all of these at once or at the same store.

-Black grease paint, like football players use.
-Blue collar clothes, preferably those of a plumper or other handyman. For extra credit, a tool belt and some plausable looking tools.
-Heavy duty, elbow length rubber gloves, shower caps, a ski mask and some black/cameo army surplus clothes.
-A reasonably sized ladder that will fit in back of any vehicle that we own/can rent.
-Dog treats/gristle bones.
-A cell phone other than our own personal one.
-Some screwdrivers and/or lockpicks.
-Jehovah's witness regalia, a copy of the Book of Mormon and a box of Watchtower magazines.
-Formal attire.
-Half a dozen nannycams.
-Wire/glass cutters.
-A duffel bag.

I'm curious about the purpose the dog treats and reading material you suggested.

Day job: you work at a hotel as a bellhop on the weekends, on weekdays you work as a janitor at a rival hotel at night

I didn't really think much about that stuff, I just sort of generically made a city like I did in JUSTICE!! I'll leave it up to you guys to finish the profile.

The dog treats are to distract guard dogs.

The assorted Jehovah's Witness stuff is so we can pretend to be one, get invited into the house, and case the joint from the inside.

Classes that would be useful: Chemistry, geology*, engineering, welding (all for stealing supplies from the workroom), acting (for my aforementioned pretending to be someone else schemes) or

Classes that would explain why we are broke: Art, music, political science, culinary science or No Declared Major.

The terrain outside is important, should we need to make a quick getaway/stash things in the woods.

*As a geology student, I can get diamond tipped glass cutters, radioactive isotopes and 10 molarity hydrochloric acid on request just by claiming it is for a research project.

The list took about 30 minutes to get sorted out. You scramble around your dorm room trying to find somewhere to put the list, taking another 15 minutes out of your day. You finally decide to put it in one of your desk drawers just in time for your roommate to not catch you hiding it. He invites you to lunch with some friends, so you put on some shoes and a jacket.
The friends turn out to be people you're quite fond of, normally he bugs you by only inviting people you hate. Something must have happened to him, but you guess prying won't help anything. You also have your own little schedule to keep. You look a second time at the company.
There are about 5 other people, not including your roommate.
-A couple that constantly bothers you for advice on love, even though your advice usually isn't anything other than "talk it out." For some reason they put a ridiculous amount of trust in you, so it's kind of awkward having to interact with them sometimes.
-One of the other students in the suspiciously unpopular acting class. Since there are only 5 students in the class you usually have to work with her. She creeps you out sometimes, but she's less creepy than anyone else in the acting class, so you don't really care much about it.
-The other two are guys from the suspiciously unpopular engineering class. They're literally the only other students in the course, so you get along with them pretty well. They go to you for financial advice even though they don't have financial problems like you do.

After 2 hours of weekend shenanigans you tell the others you have something to do and grab your bus pass. It's Sunday, 4:27pm. The bus takes an hour to reach the next town, another hour by foot. The sun's already set, so scouting the target's house out should be slightly easier.
You arrive at the target's neighborhood and take some time to think about where you should start.

We'll go around the block it's on once and get a look at the place from all sides. Note the number of doors/windows on each floor or each side, as well as any other interesting features, like trees, thorny bushes, vehicles, etc.

With no other greater goals in mind, you wander around the target's neighborhood for an hour. You notice that only three of the houses aren't for sale, and the ones that are completely obscure the view of the Gunther's mansion from the residents. The lawns haven't had grass placed on them yet, so you try to find the cleanest path away from the mansion to avoid footprints.
It's the longest way, but you probably won't get caught taking it. You leave to go back for the bus stop and notice a key resting on the sidewalk. You try it out on some of the doors, and apparently the locks haven't been changed on the doors yet, so you have a master key to the entire neighborhood. This will be useful, so you put the key in your pocket and go back home. After 3 hours you get back home at about 9, and go to bed exhausted.

Find out some info on that construction project. Then, covertly, in the dead of night, find out of our new key works on the house of our mark.

The mansion was built on land the target bought with a company he hired to have it finished as soon as they could. The locks are different. You can use it to break into a pedestrian's house, but then you wouldn't be a thief, just some sixth rate criminal.
