Both of those are good. I started with "At the Mountains of Madness" and "The Case of Charles Dexter Ward."

Tad Williams, either the Otherland series or the Dragonbone chair series, depending if you like sci-fi or fantasy respectively.

I would just like to re iterate that The Malazan Book of the Fallen is the best series of all time.
