Coins and 31.18
« on: January 01, 2011, 01:31:19 pm »

If I make, say, gold coins, can I trade them with caravans? Are they a good trade good?

If not, then what can I use them for besides looking pretty? I hear that economy is broken or I would sure as hell enable it.

Each coin has a unique design for the year it's made in, so sometimes I like to mint coins once every year. There's no actual benefit though aside from increasing fort wealth.

I suggest making a completely useless dwarfy vault full of coins for the useless scum nobles  who make unreasonable demands complete sense. In fact, install a magma flooding device wonderful bedroom inside this vault!

I collected some coins in an abandoned fort with an adventurer but couldn't pay with them at the shop.

I'm fairly sure they have no use as of now, other than for mandates.

Best use your metals to make crafts that will end up being more valueable.

You can trade coins. A stack of 500 coins is worth 10 times the value of the bar used to mint them, but don't have any quality modifiers.

A man would see that as a difficult challenge.
An elf would see that and despair.
A dwarf would see that and say, "Bring it on."

Might not be a bad way to level up your metalcrafter then, assuming you aren't planning on just melting down all his crappy items rather than trade them.

I like to fill vaults with coins.

And it feels really dirty making steel coins. Dirty good <3

I always make loads of lead coins with all the lead sitting doing nothing in my fort. Then I trade it away.
Imagine the traders testing if the coins are real

I love building complicated vaults for my artifacts, and surrounding them with coins only adds to the luster. That's part of the "Egyptian Burial" theme I tend to run with in my nobility mausoleums.

I remember back in the days, coins were very deadly weapons. No, I am not kidding.

A stack of coin is like, 1000ish, right? A tantruming dwarf can pick it up and throw each individual coins at passerbys. If the tantruming dwarf happens to be a Legendary Engraver and Mason who's Engraving just got defaced, those coins are likely to kill whichever unlucky dorf in the way.

Just so happen that my coins are stacked in a party room, see, and kids like to party. About 30 seconds later, 20-something-odd kids died , plus some other adults, including the Engraver's own son and spouse, and the spiral began. With some dwarves trying to pick up each individual coins to store in the storage area, and being picked off by the trantruming dwarf with nearly-infinite ammo.

I quickly abandoned and never minted any coins ever again.
