Goblin loyalty cascade?
« on: December 30, 2010, 11:48:28 pm »

So I get the message alerting me to a vile force of darkens arriving, and I immediately signal for all my dwarves to withdraw. Then I notice the combat report indicator, and decide to have a look at it to see if any of my dwarves were hurt. What I see are the members of the goblin pikeman squad trying to tear one of the pikemen and their law-giver into pieces. Once that's done, the pikemen promptly depart while the rest of the squads march on to my fortress as usual.

Any idea what might have caused this?

Bug in the current version: When a goblin siege arrives with a leader from a different race (kidnap victim), they will turn hostile on him when they enter the map, causing the cascade

That's.. odd. You sure there's no non-goblin corpse out there somewhere?

Edit: I've never heard of goblins kidnapping other goblins (from another goblin civ) during worldgen.. But if that does occur, that could explain I guess

different clans maybe?

No! No! I will not massacre my children. Instead, I'll make them corpulent on crappy mass-produced quarry bush biscuits and questionably grown mushroom alcohol, and then send them into the military when they turn 12...

I've gotten this too. A goblin law-giver came along with a squad of goblin spearmen, and on entry to the map they promptly beat the shit out of him.

I don't think they were trying to intimidate me, so I believe it a glitch.

It does sound like the goblin way of determining who will be the new law-giver

And they decided that they should settle it infront of your fort.

Or maybe it was mutiny, spurred by seeing my anti-siege minefield.

Well they need a witness for the event, to legislate it. Goblins don't take selecting leaders lightly, you know.

Problem is, all the pikemen and the law-giver were goblins.

Yes, I recently got a situation with a (goblin) war-leader like this.  I have a save, and I can confirm the sequence of events was this:

Olngö Zolakngogngo ("A medium-sized humanoid driven to cruelty by its evil nature"), war leader, entered the map.  He was colored in purple and was standing around with a squad of goblin hammermen in a siege.

About a second later, Olngö Zolakngogngo, goblin, was standing around colored in grey.  That is, he suddenly lost his job while on my map.

The combat logs started coming in:

"The war leader misses The Goblin Hammerman!"
"The Goblin Hammerman punches The Goblin in the right upper leg (et cetera)"

In the end, he was killed by Nako Snangās, goblin hammerman.

Then . . . it was like there were three forces on the map.  The rest of the squad stood around and did nothing; the rest of the siege attacked me as normal; and Nako Snangās seemed to take it upon herself to personally siege me as well.  Seriously.  She charged forward (and ultimately retreated) on her own schedule, independent of what all other squads did.

Really weird.  I hope Nako Snangās shows up again so I can capture her.

In the meantime, I'm propping up Olngö Zolakngogngo's corpse outside my front door for all to see.  Maybe I'll build a glass or ice box around it.

It was the whole squad against 2 or 3 of them, though. So now the entire squad is a council of law-givers?

No, by goblin law, they are goblins. The leader of thw squad in now a diety.

I have also witnessed this; the leader of the goblin civ that was at war with me came in the second siege. Upon arriving, he tried to punch one of the macegobs he was leading, missed, and was beaten to death. He lost his title, so the unit list has one entry that reads "Bax Atuongo, Goblin" flashing white and grey.
