Suggestion LCS:studying
« on: December 30, 2010, 04:12:24 pm »

Studying helps one learn.  One automatically gains it by going to class.  Certain jobs have it naturally (lawyer Dr. etc.,) certain will never have it naturally (hick, dropout, caged mutant things etc.,) some may or may not (driver, sewage worker etc.,)

Studying is based on WISDOM.  So there is now a reason to risk a bit of wisdom.  Furthermore it makes learning a little slower than the 1/3 a point per class day.

(partly it seems odd that a dropout gains as fast as a doctor)

Hmm... Sort of a work ethic type thing? I think it should be randomly generated then fixed. The main reason people drop out is because they are bad at working, so, as you say, a drop out wouldn't be good at studying, I don't think it should increase though, or if it does increase it should be very slow. If dropping out of class was included, this could influence it.

I agree that it should advance slowly and that it should be random, just that certain professions should always get some and certain professions should never get some. I'd not be surprised to see doctors with ranges of 1-4 and hairstylists 0-4, but dropouts I'd be shocked with a 2.

Studying, or learning even, is a skill just like any other, and becoming a good learner, in general, takes time and effort. I certainly wouldn't mind seeing the game represent that a bit by giving it its own skill.

Maybe we could even have a class that teaches it. ;)

But like how there's a chance for an awesome mutant, there should be the occasional dropout who did it because he realized he was smarter than the system and could get ahead faster by bypassing it entirely. Remember, some of the most successful people in the world are dropouts.
