I begin to attempt a mental connection thing with Fuffs. I also try to grant her fireproofing.
You manage to forge a link with Fuffs. Its mostly empathic for now, but it will improve with time. As for the fire-proofing, you succeed, with the added bonus of giving her the ability to burst into flame at will.

((just out of curiosity, do you want to decide what breed of cat Fuffs is {since it hasn't been stated yet}, or let me decide?))

You manage to convey the basic feeling of life-savingness to Fuffs, who then leaps up onto your back and falls asleep.

You find the population tends to ignore you, except for one grizzled old man.
"Ya looking for the somethin' t'do? *HACK* *COUGH* Well, that stinkin' beast in that cave way over thar stole a gem-encrusted steel dagger that's been in my family for generations. *COUGH* Bring it back and I'll make it worth yar while."
The old man staggers over to a bench in by a run-down fountain, and slumps down on it. He pulls out a beat-up looking flask from his coat pocket, looks at and shakes his head, muttering, "I gotta lay off the moon*hic*shine... I'm seein' *hic* things now!"

The villagers take offense at an outsider waltzing in and telling them how to live their lives. One of them actually talks to you, voicing the general opinion.

"Who are you to tell us how to live? Have you ever considered that we're in this mess because of the overgrown lizard that keeps stealing our cattle and killing our crops? None of us here like you 'holier-than-thou' types."

After a couple hours of... umm... hovering in it general direction... the cave comes into view. You feel increasingly uneasy the closer you get.

You manage to catch up to Iceball/Icebrawl just before he heads into the cave.
I allow the Fuffs to sink near the center of my body, making sure that plenty of air flows in and out of the little pocket I made for her. Share my aura of discomfort with her and approach the cave.


You find that the cave branchs off into three passages a short distance from the entrance, each one as dark and mysterious as the last.

((I'm probably gonna take a break from updating until tommorow morning, but each of you feel free to post what you do next between now and then.))

The air starts to get that 'just-before-a-storm' feel, and clouds accumulate overhead.

+2 to weather-control magic skill (For this, and you previous attempt.)

also: ask around town if they have rare metals - preferably of the rustproof/resistant types.

Most people just stand there slack-jawed and wide-eyed when you talk to them, and point in the direction of an abandoned forge.
