Friend told me about some silly super concentrated japanese green tea which is really bitter so its drank while eating really sweet stuff, its probably the only time I've ever wanted to try any tea other then earl grey.

I like Irish Breakfast, 2 sugars. Nice strong taste.

Oh, and it was my birfday yesterday and you know what one of my 5 or so presents were? Teas. (Checks pantry) Jasmin Oolong, Oriental Delight, Ti Kuan Yin, and Pouchong Teas. Can you enlighten me as to any of them?

The latter two are from southeast China (Fujian, I think) and sort of halfway between a green tea and an oolong tea. I think they're technically qingcha, which is hard to translate exactly, since this particular qing can mean blue, black and green. Tieguanyin in particular is supposed to be top-notch, but I've never had it.

I'm British, and I don't drink tea... one of the few stereotypes about brits which is actually true... and I don't fulfill it... I get ridiculed for this quite a bit...

We sure do seem to have a lot of Earl Grey drinkers, judging by the poll.

just putting this out there, but i probably prefer tea to DF, fortunately i can have both.

My preference is just yon standard Yorkshire Tea, or african gold faretrade tea, or even supermarket stuff. quite strong and with milk, no sugar.

I also drink chinese tea, not the tea bag stuff. Chinese tea doesnt come in tea bags, Mao's little red book detests the decadancy of the western capitalist tea bag. chinese tea is just dried leaves that you cover in hot water. They dont do milk either.

Theres lots of brands i cant tell the difference between but you can get it from chinese supermarkets that are all over the place these days.

I just knew somebody would bring that up.

I detest that last one. I love the slight citrus tinge of the tea, for example.

And really, if you're going to express opinions like that, at least take the effort to elaborate. Otherwise, you may be taken for a troll. It's all about constructive comments.

I love peppermint tea. Also like English Breakfast or Earl Grey, and green teas are nice. I take all of them with a half teaspoon of sugar.

Au contraire. "Milk tea" (i.e. black or oolong tea with condensed milk and possibly sugar) is fairly popular in China, especially with younger drinkers (hey, it's Western...so it's hip and trendy). Started in Hong Kong with the British colonial influence, and then spread to the mainland in the last couple of decades. It's still crazy popular in HK. And iced milk tea is like the Chinese equivalent of the frappe.

I vaguely remember seeing something about the energy consumption in britian. As a culture, most people would have tea at approxamately the same time. Then you could compare that time to the time of a certian show (I don't remember the anme of it), and most people would heat up their water during a commercial of this show.

Since most people in the country tried to heat their tea during the same 5 minutes, they would experience brownouts. Thus they now have someone who watches that show in anticipation of the commercial to try to balance out the grid, occasionally borrowing energy from neighboring countries in an emergency.

Aren't the commercial breaks planned in advanced, at least enough to plan accordingly and not have to watch and spot the exact second a commercial break starts?

Anyway, count me in with the Earl Grey crowd. Nice and smooth tasting. Of course, tea is too broad to really compare them all (that's like asking me what my favorite food is). Simple mint tea (as in mint and only mint) is great in certain circumstances, as is chai or breakfast teas or any variety of herbal infusions.

The show you're thinking of is Corrie. At the end of it they have to double output to meet the demand of all the kettles in the country going on.
