The Tea Thread! :D
« on: December 29, 2010, 10:13:50 am »

I've noticed a lack of tea related topics recently, so here's one!

This thread is for general tea discussion, and to find our Bay12 tea brethren.

I myself drink quite a bit of tea - about 2-4 cups a day. I prefer Earl Grey (two sugars, no milk), and stick with Twinings. Besides that, I drink iced green tea almost all the time. What about you people? How much tea is drunk? How do you like it? Any specific tea brand/type?

Black with ginger and lemon, no sugar. Yes, please.

I like tea, especially any good tea i can get my hand on. I still drink mostly Lipton an Twinings, though.
2-4 cup a day until I stop (usually for a couple of weeks).
I'll make myself a pot of Chinese tea this evening.

Stop drinking tea? Madness!  :o

I haven't tried adding ginger. I'll try that, thanks Tomas!

Masala chai with milk and some sugar, it's always great way to start your day (Hey... is it just me, or does that rhyme?).

I've just never got tea. It just tastes like a too watery drink to me, with the not very nice addition of it being warm water, which in turn is detestable to me as well.

Tell me, teanthusiasts, what tea should I drink to amend this horribly unenlightened attitude? Does such a tea exist at all?

Just make it stronger. Mint tea is always good too.

Phew, now I know I'm not crazy when there's someone who drinks as much as I do!

There's a lot of iced tea types for peeps who don't like them warm, and there's quite a few strong types too. Do you have a specific preference? Black, white, green?

You can just steep it for longer and chill it, anyways.  ;D

Red Rose, because you get these little ceramic thingies in each box. When I'm elsewhere, I find it's best replaced by something like a Twinnings english breakfast or, in extreme cases, Lipton... but before using Lipton, you should seriously consider ripping off a foot and brewing that instead.

I've also taken to camel meal.

Oh, youngling, you have so much to learn! :)

First, try some of the pre-made teas. Brisk Ice Tea in a can, Nestea from a powder drink mix, and so forth all are very sugary and highly flavored. Make sure you don't get unsweetened though, as that tastes... different. When I go to the bookstore, I get a chai tea made with milk. It had a thicker texture and very full flavor.

Second, remember that the majority of flavor comes from the smell. This is true of EVERY flavor, so much so that onion juice and pure apple juice actually taste the same if your nose is plugged. So smell your tea - a lot. Most teas smell REALLY good. I prefer the smells (and flavors) of herbal teas, so that's what I prefer to drink. A lemon tea, orange tea, blackberry tea, and so forth are all amazing.

Third, use a type of sugar. I prefer honey personally. For reasons I don't yet know, it brings out the flavor of a lot of teas. Whether I use it depends largely on my mood, but if you don't like regular tea it really helps.

Personally I prefer mate, but when I drink tea it's usually earl grey. In the past I liked Darjeeling better, though

Black tea, iced and sweet enough to substitute for glucose. I typically will drink about a half gallon of sweet tea a day.

Beyond that, I'm partial to spiced chai, Thai iced tea (iced black tea sweetened with coconut milk), and occasionally good quality green tea.

I'll drink plain old hot black tea with milk and sugar if offered, but it's not really my cup of tea (pun intended).
