Why just Dwarf Fortress? Scribblenauts and torturing elfs. :D
« on: December 29, 2010, 12:46:29 am »

These elfs are fine and dandy, but what about those on the hit DS game scribbleanauts? Look at them. They're the same type and all, spawning two elfs makes them fight, and spawning a elf and a dwarf makes them fight. (This game actully has a few DF references, check it out)
So torture elfs in scribblenauts.

TL:DR: There are elfs in scribblenauts going untortured. Fix it.

Care to elaborate on those references?

Well, I know of four.

Elfs naturally fight. (elf cannibalism)
Dwarfs will naturally (attempt) to fight demonz (No explination needed)
Dwarfs naturally fight elfs (...)
And dwarfs fear elephants (Boatmurdered? :O)

Elven stereotypes predate Dwarf Fortress. Toady and Threetoe didn't invent elves and dwarves, you know.

Oh.. Wait..

If it were posted in other games subforum it might make *some* sense

Circumstantial. The elephants are your best bet...

This has been spoken about in various threads already.

Dwarfs are afraid of elephants and carp (yes, specifically carp). They hunt down and kill elves. Entering "Urist" produces a dwarf.

Oh wow! We realy have become popular... Maybe this will lead to more donations for Toady and Threetoe!

Wait... Darn these big market type game producers! Riding on dwarf fortress coat tails and never giving a cent to the producers! Shame on them! If game makers love DF so much that there willing to make referances to it, they should also show some support and donate to Toady.

Darn these small time, donation based, game producers! Riding on JRRT's coat tails and never giving a cent! Shame on them!  If the toady loves the mythology so much that he's willing to make references to it, then he should definately pay royalties to the Tolkien estate!

You all are really obsessed with finding DF references everywhere, aren't you? Especially when said referneces are non-existant.

Elfs naturally fight. (elf cannibalism)
Unsupported link. "naturally fight" does not mean "cannibal". Thankyouverymuch.

Dwarfs will naturally (attempt) to fight demonz (No explination needed)
Like many other creatures, I bet.

Dwarfs naturally fight elfs (...)
This trope (tensions between dwarfs and elves) is way older than DF.

And dwarfs fear elephants (Boatmurdered? :O)
Someone would wonder if half of creatures in Scribblenauts fear elephants.

So... pretty crappy. Only references mentioned here I see as real - that writing Urist produces dwarf and irrational fear of carp. These cannot be accidental or taken from more general tropes. Urist is obvious, and outside of DF lore, dwarves fearing carps makes no sense.

Do dwarves have an unusual obsession with... certain metals?

Well that went better than expected.  He went nuts and punched a rabbit to death, then the dogs and the whole dining hall ripped him to shreds.

There is a clear DF reference in Super Scribblenauts that no one has mentioned: typing in Urist spawns a dwarf.

B.) Other games forum?
