Smoothed wall display oddity

I found this while my dwarves were smoothing out the bedrooms:

Seemed a bit odd, so I figured I'd report it.

It's always been like that and I prefer those "weird" things to the O's of pillars.

I don't remember the rules at all...  does it consistently use the O if the south wall isn't open?  It might not like the angled corner with the double wall against a wall.  Though I have no idea.

I've seen O when there is 1 or 3 NSEW adjacent non-smooth walls.  If they are EXACTLY 2 it will do the wonkyness pictured.

If anything gets changed I'd like to see fewer pillars (only 1 adjacent wall, smooth or otherwise).  You can use a different graphic in place of the one seen, but I like seeing it.  I've gone out of my way in some forts to end smooth sections so they don't have pillars (even added doors to my vast burrial catacombs to get rid of some more).
