1st Granite, 2013, Overseer's log
I, Omo 'Muffin' Canaalotha, have just been informed that I am the new overseer of Wooddipped. I was also told to keep this log. I can't really say why, I'm just a Healer. Seriously, Ova is a much better choice, what with his hunting and such. However, it is not I who made the decision, but Rifa herself, and who am I to question her word?
2nd Granite, 2013, Overseer's log
I've seen to the expansion of our defenses. The walls are to be doubled and thickness, and fortified. Also, I am commissioning the construction of a bridge spanning the river, so we can reach the other side.
3rd Granite, 2013, Overseer's log
Elephants!
These majestic and beautiful creatures glare at us from the other side of the river. I've halted the construction of the bridge so we can build cage traps and hopefully restrain the wonderful beasts so they can do no harm.
13th Granite, 2013, Overseer's log
Skulking filth!
Mame stumbled upon a kobold thief while carrying some properly sung wood to the stockpile. He immediately ran screaming like a little girl, dropping the wood, thankfully to no harm. Fortunately, out raccoons were nearby and instantly attack the fiend. I rushed up into the dormitory to rouse kilakan, and he glared at me for a moment before getting up and heading downstairs. He forgot his arrows in the rush, and charged into combat with the filth, along with our bear, and the raccoons. I saw the kobold strike a dirty blow at out defender, and he stared at the filth, filled with rage. One of the raccoons heroically bit the kobold in the neck, downing it. The kobold screamed one final word before dieing.
"Ngustrangusluk!"
It sounded like a curse. The other elves instinctively started calling the raccoon by that word, as if mocking the skulking filth.
14th Granite, 2013, Overseer's log
I've looked over kilakan's foot, and it does not look good. He says he can't feel it at all, and the gash is deep. I don't think this is a good sign. I tried to get him to walk, but he just glared darkly at me. I fear the worst.
In other news, I've started a little celebration to commemorate the defeat of the skulking filth.
3rd Slate, 2013, Overseer's log
I've assigned Crocatowa to help Ibid with building the cage traps. I made the cages my self, and I'm rather proud of them.
9th Slate, 2013, Overseer's log
I've told Panzer to stop gathering plants, and to start growing them. I see that we're low.
Also, the bridge has been completed, and as soon as it was, Crocatowa rushed across, bow and quiver in hand, with a large smile on her face. Rifa bless that woman. As she left, I told her to come straight back when she was done, and not to go back out again until the elephants were captured.
17th Slate, 2013, Overseer's log
Thaci has been looking quite pleased with himself lately. When he works, he works with legendary speed and efficiency. I honestly have no idea why. He carries himself with a certain presence now.
19th Slate, 2013, Overseer's log
Migrants should be here by now. I don't know what's happening. We need more workers, we can't get by as it is.
25th Slate, 2013, Overseer's log
The farm has finally started growing the strawberries I've been wanting. Once they're done, we'll have some fine wine to drink.
I've told Panzer to work harder on the stocks, I need to know how our supplies are going.
8th Felsite, 2013, Overseer's log
Hmm, it seems that the Elephants are gone. Well, those cage traps will still come in handy. I've told Crocatowa that she can hunt again.
12 Felsite, 2013, Overseer's log
The Elephants are back.
13th Felsite, 2013, Overseer's log
Some merchants have arrived. I've told the others to build a depot.
22nd Felsite, 2013, Overseer's log
We've offered most of our shell crafts to our merchant brethren, and traded what was left for some drink, and I swear, one of the barrels is full of blood. I don't know why Crocatowa ordered it. Ibid looked just as confused as I was.
1st Hematite, 2013, Overseer's log
Ha ha! I feel the summer breezes approaching. I have good feelings about this year. My only worry is kilakan, and his foot. He still hasn't left the hospital. I fear that he will have to be replaced in the near future.
In other news, Crocatowa has received blessings from Rifa, becoming a hunter. We don't really need the meat, but she needs the training.
2nd Hematite, 2013, Overseer's log
It has started raining. Soon the holy trees and grasses will re-grow, and our elven settlement will prosper.
6th Hematite, 2013, Overseer's log
Success! One of our cage traps slammed closed on an Elephant!
7th Hematite, 2013, Overseer's log
Early this morning, I was awoken by a horrendous noise. I feared the worst. I rushed down the stairs, fearing something had breached our walls. I was relieved to see that another Elephant trapped in a cage.
8th Hematite, 2013, Overseer's log
I've inspected our captured beasts, and they are both monstrously large males. They'll make great ancestors for the trained Elephants Wooddipped will eventually have.
13th Hematite, 2013, Overseer's log
I fear for Crocatowa. She only returns when she's run out of arrows, but never has returned with a kill. She sleeps out in the wild with Alligators and Elephants on the loose. I fear.
17th Hematite, 2013, Overseer's log
While I was observing kilakan in the hospital, I hear a blood curling shout from outside. I ran down the stairs, fearing the worst, when Crocatowa rushed back into camp, a wild grin on her face. She sprinted to the middle of the camp and shouts, "I LOVE THIS BOW!" before running back out. I fear for her sanity.
24th Hematite, 2013, Overseer's log
Ah, finally, new migrants. Their names and professions are:
Nemo Soakedraptors, Tanner
Kifino Beachcherished, Peasant (Has some bowelf skills)
Thome Namewaters, Mechanic
Lebeyu Valetips, Leather Worker
A Grizzly Bear Cub named Thale Sweetnessfocused. Sounds very nice.
Pila Rainyroofs, Carpenter. Doesn't sound very reassuring.
A mountain goat kid
Link Archbuds, Weaver (FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU) (Make Hunter)
Niri Talonmortal, Animal Trainer. I guess they know their business.
Romimi Blazedrill, Trapper
And that's it.
Whew, what a list. I'll get them to work immediately.
25th Hematite, 2013, Overseer's log
Ibid has taken Thone under her wing as an apprentice, releasing Crocatowa to do what she wishes.
Not really much else today.
1st Malachite, 2013, Overseer's log
Our brewers are complaining about how we need empty barrels, even though I was carrying a freshly made one from the workshop. Interesting bunch, these elves.
4th Malachite, 2013, Overseer's log
Kifino reports tigermen roaming in the woods. Well, that's great. I want to capture and train them, but I think we are inadequately prepared for such a task. I believe we require one of the masters of animal soothing, a Whisperer.
6th Malachite, 2013, Overseer's log
The bear cub that came with the migrants has grown into an adult, and I've commissioned it to be trained to hunt alongside our brave hunters.
7th Malachite, 2013, Overseer's log
Crocatowa brought back her first kill today, and I can't say that I'm not proud.
Also, Lafy is an arrogant fool. Yesterday, I was trying to enjoy a fine meal made out of elephant, and he storms in and boasts about how he is the finest swordself to ever grace the face of the earth, better than anyone. He even had the gall to mention that he could beat even great Rifa in a duel. What an imposter. I'm assigning him as our guardian right away, to redeem himself in my eyes, and his ancestors eyes by dying in battle.
10th Malachite, 2013, Overseer's log
Something truly troubling occurred today. While she was brewing up some whip wine, Crocatowa started to shake violently. I tried to restrain her. Her eyes rolled up into her head, and she shoved me away. She instantly righted herself and broke into the mechanics shop, biting at anyone who came near.
I sincerely fear for that girl.
11th Malachite, 2013, Overseer's log
I heard some voice come out of the mechanics shop early. It seems as if Crocatowa hasn't left it since last night. I heard the words, "Vecaniwora... needs... rough... color... stone... rock..."
I am troubled.
12th Malachite, 2013, Overseer's log
I've been thinking about what I heard Yesterday. Stone, rock obviously means rock, and my closest guess at what rough, color means is gems, taken from the earth. I shall see what I can do for her, as I do dearly miss my friend Crocatowa.
20th Malachite, 2013, Overseer's log
The bears owner openly rejects his training. Ah well, I must train another beast to aide our hunters.
Speaking of which, I've told them all to stop hunting for the time being, as we've got enough meat to last us through twenty winters.
26th Malachite, 2013, Overseer's log
It seems as if Crocatowa has all of the materials she needs. She has three clumps of what appears to be gypsum, and a chunk of glowing fire agate.
All the rest of us can do is hope for the best, and expect the worst.
1st Galena, 2013, Overseer's log
Happy day, happy day!
Crocatowa has finally come out of her trance, and has produced a gypsum mechanism.
I asked her about the mechanism, but she says she has no recollection of what happened. She refused to believe me, and only gave in when I showed her the masterpiece myself.
18th Galena, 2013, Overseer's log
Skulking filth!
Another kobold attacks! I told the carpenters to hurry up building the gates, but to no avail. I've conscripted our hunters for the time being.
19th Galena, 2013, Overseer's log
Our famed raccoon, Ngustrangusluk, has been slain. I will give him a proper burial, when he is recovered.
20th Galena, 2013, Overseer's log
It seems as if the kobold has run off. Ngustrangusluk has been buried.
1st Limestone, 2013, Overseer's log
Ah, I feel the cool breezes already. Autumn is here.
10th Limestone, 2013, Overseer's log
Rifa damn them!
We've been attacked by no less than two kobold thieves in just Limestone alone!
I've ordered all of the gates and bridges closed for the time being.
12th Limestone, 2013, Overseer's log
I've come up with an ingenious plan on how to raise the drawbridge, and close us in at the same time. Floodgates are placed behind the bridge, and when I, or another elf, pulls the lever, the drawbridge lowers, and the floodgates open.
The archers even say that they can fire through the bars!
Ha ha, I am a genius!
2nd Sandstone, 2013, Overseer's log
The construction of my design is almost complete. It should be finished by the end of the day.
3rd Sandstone, 2013, Overseer's log
Hmm. It appears my design has trapped us within these walls. Alright, back to the drawing board.
21st Sandstone, 2013, Overseer's log
Migrants!
They all came in so fast, I didn't get a chance to get all of their names.
I know that we had 25 elves before they came, and now I count 31, so we gained a fair amount.
Tise, one of the new migrants, said that they are the last few to make the trip to the outpost for the year, and that there is a chance that none will arrive next year. I told Tise that he was wrong.
I've taken Tice as a second apprentice, as he told me that he had some basic medical skills.
Ah, that makes me remember kilakan. He's still sitting darkly in my hospital. I should really do something about him. His foot got infected in slate, and I don't think it has fully healed yet.
I am worried.
25th Sandstone, 2013, Overseer's log
Alright, my latest plan my not be as cunning, but it is rather brutal and I don't like it much. I'm going to but a catapult in front of our gate. I'll train one of the new migrants to use it with any efficiency.
9th Timber, 2013, Overseer's log
Those Rifa damned Snailmen!
The elves are complaining that they can't wash themselves off, so I sent the guardians to fight them. They are out of arrows. They're currently beating the snailmen with their bows.
18th Timber, 2013, Overseer's log
Beautiful Elephants threaten our fishers, so I've sent out our hunters to convert them to energy for us.
20th Timber, 2013, Overseer's log
I just realized how little I've done for our accommodations in the home tree. Well, I'm not a very good architect either way.
1st Moonstone, 2013, Overseer's log
Ah, the swift cold of winter approaches. I can already feel it's icy grip in my bones.
3rd Moonstone, 2013, Overseer's log
I've moved the stone pile closer to the workshops and catapult.
22nd Opal, 2013, Overseer's log
Moonstone was a dull month.
I've commissioned the construction of a Masons shop so we can commemorate fallen comrades, and respect worthy foes.
4th Obsidian, 2013, Overseer's log
Well, the end of my term is near.
I've failed to induct Lafy into the guard. This makes me sad.
I haven't doubled the thickness of the walls, another thing that makes me sad.
I haven't expanded upon the home tree, which makes me a tad regretful.
I have built up a small military, and finished the walls, wich makes me proud.
Well, that pretty much covers it.
14th Obsidian, 2013, Overseer's log
I've ordered the construction of a well.
No doubt that I will use it, if someone was to get hurt.
25th Obsidian, 2013, Overseer's log
A huge grin passed over one of my apprentices today. He laughed, and rushed out of the meeting hall. He instantly claimed the crafts shop, and demanded some materials for some construction that he wants to make.
"I must have body parts!"
I worry.
1st Granite, 2014, Former Overseer's log
Ah, I feel the warming rains and breezes of the spring time, warming our cold bodies.
My time as overseer is over. I hope I have benefited Wooddipped as much as I think I did, and I hope our descendants know of our efforts.
Thone still demands bones, and I hope to Rifa that after the bear cub is slaughtered, he has enough. If he doesn't, who knows.
Note to future overseer's
The levers for the two new bridges are next to their bridge. The new hatch cover and tombstone built south of the siege workshop is the grave of the dead raccoon that killed the kobold. I think that most of our graves should look like this, spaced out so the bodies are not next to each other.
The slab in the upper left most corner of the wall, and that whole corner, probably, should be dedicated to the worthy foes our guardians have felled. Their corpses can rot on the stockpile, unless you would wish to bury them.
Tise and the male Thone are my apprentices. Don't use them for anything unless you have to. However, if you have need of a bonecarver, Thone should be near legendary in skill after the completion of his creation.
[The page is scratched here, like the writer became possessed some entity mid-sentence.]
I've made some changes to the raws.
Raccoons act like cats now.
I've added training swords to the entity, but I can't produce them.
I've made it so that nerves can heal, but kilakan won't ever be able to walk because his nerves are severed.
I think that's it.
