running Debian Linux on a Macbook Pro...

8 gb ram -- not sure what gen or clock (though I feel like it's 1600)

After changing the thermal grease on the POS mac heatpipe I run ~35 FPS on full embark with around 100 dwarfies.  --without melting my legs off..

---anyone else here run Linux?

5.1ghz pentium 4 ... well, not anymore :p motherboard blew up. It's been awhile, but iirc, DF ran like a scalded dog on it.

Currently using a PC I built running windows XP with some hacks with an e8400 c2d @ 3.74ghz/1668fsb with 4gb ddr3-1668/cas7 corsair ram, intel ssd, blahblah. Handles DF OK.

I play adventure mode on my laptop which is a Fujitsu Lifebook T4220 with a T7100 c2d @ 1.8ghz and 2gb ddr2-667 ram running Ubuntu 10.10. Adventure mode stays around 60-100fps/30-50gfps without too many issues.

I kinda want to rebuild my 5ghz p4 box. I had DF running as the shell, in xp, with almost no services running and no other apps. DF loved that box. Hyperthreading was turned off and DF was set to realtime. Had 2gb of ddr3 with really really low timings and I think my fsb was 1200mhz with the ram running at the same speed.

I've got my i7 920 overclocked to 4.5ghz and it runs dwarf fortress quite well, for the most part.

6 gigs of ram and a 9800GT, not that it even uses the card all that much, its all about the cpu.

The sad part is things eventually do bog down once i get around 150-200 dwarves or start doing fancy things with water and magma.

See, that was interesting! For me one of the most fascinating things about DF is the fact that it is perfectly enjoyable on a budget laptop (not quite on a netbook, but then nothing is particularly enjoyable on one of those), but will challenge the biggest rediculously OC'd monster rig. I can't think of a game that would benefit from having a ludicrous 5Ghz of CPU power more?

Also: please post your bios settings because at 5Ghz I think you just won the game

Indeed, i played DF at a weak pentinum D laptop with 256mb ram and is was still fun (2*2 embark no interesting features 1 cave layer 20 dwarves) You just have to design your embark/fort to your computer power

I've been playing DF on a rather old computer with Windows XP Home, 3.06ghz but only 256kb in processor cache, 756mb of DDRSDRAM (low frequency), and a NVIDIA GeForce 7300 with 512mb VRAM. Thus, the inspiration to build my own.

Fan on the grahpics card stopped working, processors made alot of heat, then the 200F fried my hard drive. So new fan and hard drive for me.
