Update 7X-COM Commander’s Log – Robert Steinbach - March 10 2084; 0615hAfter we got the bio-transport module fitted in and the soldiers rounded up, the Skyranger was launched.
The Energen Building was the sole provider of power for the entire city, excluding Megapol and Sanctuary Clinic’s backup generators. The actual reactors were buried underground, but the surface facilities were still essential for operation.
Even without a report of aliens, X-COM is technically 'allowed' to conduct pre-emptive checks on buildings. I’ll just have to hope the Senate doesn’t get too worked up over it.
The first aliens we saw were a couple of pink humanoids. The Science team unimaginatively named them “spitters”, because they attacked by spitting a corrosive acid out of the funnels they had as heads.
A blue alien (the science team named these “Arthropods” for reasons unknown) emerged from a service lift to the south. It was sheltering an immobile alien egg, which also appeared to attack much like the spitters.
It became clear that the aliens were trying to surround us.
Concentrated laser fire from Sniper Squad and liberal use of stun grenades quickly neutralized whatever attack they had been trying to pull off. I ordered the Gunner Squad down into the basements to check for further aliens.
They encountered more spitters, and a gigantic green worm later named the Multiworm.
It soon became clear that the multiworm was a much tougher foe. It attacked with acidic spit as the spitters, but was better than them, wounding Squad Leader Markus, Loony and critically wounding The Author. In addition, it absorbed nearly a hundred machinegun rounds at close range before dying.
When it died, four smaller pink worms swarmed their way out of the corpse, rushing for our soldiers.
They managed to further injure Squad Leader Markus by chewing their way through the chinks in his armor.
Luckily, the soldiers gunned them down before they could do any more damage.
The last alien was a spitter, which was apparently panicking in a back room. It’s good to see that X-COM still strikes fear into the hearts of our enemies.
Overall, I would say it was an average mission. We had killed all aliens on-site, although we couldn’t confirm whether the building was completely clear or if any had escaped.
What’s more worrying though is the abundance of alien species. After just one mission, our alien containment unit was eighty percent full. Most of the aliens used biological weapons such as acid spit, and none appeared to be even sentient. I’ve ruled out the possibility that the Ethereals are behind this, since our one hybrid (breadbocks) reported no psionic presence during the battle. Could this be another unknown alien empire?
