Update 4X-COM Commander’s Log – Robert Steinbach - March 8 2084; 1420h
I sorted through the items recovered from the Sirius raid. It appears we have recovered a Megapol plasma gun (despite Megapol claiming they were ‘out of stock’) and five Psiclones.
The Psiclone is a psionic implant derived from the alien entertainment technology of the First Alien War. It essentially allows the user to experience any sensation possible, as long as the user can imagine it. The addictiveness of the device has led to it being banned in the city.
As a result, the Psiclone fetches a high price on the black market, where Psyke purchases them for resale.
Psyke was the gang that originally built and sold the Psiclone, making a fortune. With the Psiclone outlawed in the city and the possession of one made a criminal offense, their power fell to a fraction of what it once was. What is more interesting is the fact that Psyke only sells the Psiclone to other gangs like Osiron outside city limits, and not to the Cult of Sirius operating inside.
Interesting enough to dispatch a group of agents to investigate. They took a retrofitted hovercar rather than the Skyranger, because the Skyranger was a large, recognizable target that could be shot down easily.
The nearest Psyke-operated slum were the Necronomicon Mansions, just north of our base.
Our four agents reached a large slum block, charging up the central gravlift.
They then set up an ambush position, covering the gravlift and sweeping the corridors.
They then found these – Marsec heavy weapons. Marsec had claimed that they were out of stock in Mega-Primus and needed a week or so to ship them in from the asteroid factories, but it appears that Psyke gang members have them. This requires more investigation.
At the moment however, those weapons gave the gang members the upper hand. Agents HK 47 and Miranda Galena were forced to retreat behind cover, with HK 47 being injured. It was only the liberal use of grenades that prevented the gang members from overwhelming them.
The mission ended when the remaining gang members panicked and tried to flee when their comrades were gunned down.
Apart from retrieving more Psiclone, we also discovered a Marsec proximity mine in the possession of a gang member. It appears my former employers have a lot of ‘unofficial’ customers.
