Flu Remedies
« on: December 27, 2010, 07:29:40 pm »

So. I recently came down with a pretty bad flu. (The full description would include the phrase 'both ends' so I'm not going to mention that :-\.) In the interest of sharing, what do you all do when you've got one?

Myself, I go through roughly the following process:

1) Wait until I'm done vomiting for at least 4 hours or so.
2) Start on diet of crackers and peppermint tea until I recover enough to start eating to recover all the delightful electrolytes and such I lost in step 1.

I'm curious what the barely conscious ai wrote about.
Well that went better than expected.  He went nuts and punched a rabbit to death, then the dogs and the whole dining hall ripped him to shreds.

Haha, that's the funniest things I've heard today.

Honestly I've never gotten the flu. However, for colds I just do whatever makes me feel better. Pepto-Bismol helps if it's a really bad stomach bug. Otherwise I wash my hands a lot (with soap, and scrubbing extra around the fingernails and where the fingers seperate), drink herbal tea, and listen to pretty relaxing music. Then I sleep a lot. Warm soup also helps. So does a wife that likes to baby you.

I think I get my electrolytes mostly from the soup (which is good because then I also stay hydrated). It's a shame antibiotics can't help a virus though, because I would so go to the doctor to get those.

No! No! I will not massacre my children. Instead, I'll make them corpulent on crappy mass-produced quarry bush biscuits and questionably grown mushroom alcohol, and then send them into the military when they turn 12...

I've gotten really long colds before that last for months on end.

So colds don't bother me much at all.

Flu is a different matter. Usually I know I am recovering from the flu when my body heats up and I break into a sweat. So liquids are very important.

Chicken soup and Gatorade. LOTS of Gatorade.

And at bedtime, I use an old family remedy consisting of whiskey or brandy, lemon juice, honey and rock candy--all boiled together until dissolved, then you drink it while still as hot as you can humanly take without doing severe damage to your throat.

Yeah, a lot of energy drinks help with the missing electrolytes. I suggest warm food, like soups and what not. They taste so good! Also might help :P
